Towards the end of 2011, Honda India launched the new Honda City with few cosmetic touch ups and addition of sunroof in the sedan. The Honda City price was tagged at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom price) when it was launched in India last year in December. However after the revision of price after the announcement of Union budget 2012, Honda City price now stands at Rs 7.29 lakh (ex-showroom price). Despite being available only in the petrol variant, the sedan car is doing pretty well in the Indian car market. If this is the kind of response the car is getting in petrol guise only, imagine how much the presence of diesel version will make to Honda City. City’s rivals like Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Ford Fiesta are present in diesel version too which makes a huge difference to their sales figure as all these cars are priced almost in the same price range. The new Honda City sedan now sports even better looks than before. The sedan is offered in seven variants including two automatic versions one with sunroof offered on Honda City V and one without sunroof, Honda City 1.5 V.The addition of sunroof has further added the luxury factor to the sedan which was missing earlier. Honda City is offered in multiple colour options which comprise of Carnelian, Sparkling Brown Metallic, Urban Titanium Metallic, Bold Beige Metallic, Alabaster Silver Metallic and Taffeta White. Honda City is powered with a 1.5 litre iVTEC petrol engine that offers a fuel economy of 11-12kmpl in city and 15-16.7kmpl on highways. Flaunting a thick front grille the city sedan looks the segment leader from every angle, the only loop hole in the car is the lack of diesel engine. However, the company is working towards it and hopefully it will bestow diesel engine on the sedan in the coming years. Rumours suggest that Honda City diesel could be launched in India by 2013, the company is also working towards the downsized diesel engine which will power its hatchbacks, Honda Jazz and Honda Brio. Apart from this Honda CR-V could also be launched in the diesel version in India, though the country is yet to get the new gen Honda CR-V which has been launched in various other parts of the global auto markets. Honda’s newly introduced low prices hatchback, Honda Brio has also been doing well in the country. It is petite yet attractive and the most distinctive part of the hatchback is its rear, most of which is made of glass. Honda cars can be seen a lot on the roads dominated by Honda City sedan which has been ruling the sedan segment in India for a long time now. City is a perfect family sedan car that offers great looks, ample space, innovative features, good boot space and a reliability of Honda brand. Last year the car could withstand the competition given to it by its rivals Hyundai Verna fluidic and the Volkswagen Vento, but the sedan emerged a winner once again and stands intact today in the C segment in India.
