Possible Means to Take Off That Soy Sauce Stain in Clothes

Home Improvement,Fashion & Cosmetics,Family & Parenting
Soy sauce tastes good, but it isn't great looking on your clothing, upholstery or carpet. This is especially true because soy sauce is a dark colored liquid, so the stains are very noticeable.

This guide explains how to remove soy sauce stains from a variety of materials. Traditional soy sauce is made from fermenting soy beans with some special molds, water, and salt, while less expensive soy sauces are made using hydrologized acids. Understanding the composition of the soy sauce helps us understand soy sauce stain removal. The number one thing to know about removing a soy sauce stain is act fast - time is of the essence with stain removal.

As with most stains the quicker you begin to remove it the easier it will be, because it will not have time to set.

This is not to say that if your stain from soy sauce is old you cannot remove it, but instead that it will just take more time and effort.

Removing Soy Sauce Stains From Clothing Step 1: Run the fabric, inside out, under the cold water to flush out as much of the soy sauce as possible.

Step 2: Wet a clean white, nonlinting cloth with ammonia, and sponge this onto the stained area of the fabric.

Hint: Test the ammonia on the fabric in an inconspicuous area to make sure it will not harm the fabric.

Step 3: Blot at the stain caused by the soy sauce. Repeat until as much of the soy sauce, as possible, is removed from the clothing.

Step 4: Pretreat the stain with a laundry prewash stain remover.

Step 5: Launder in the hottest water the fabric will allow to get out the stain, and add color (non-chlorine) bleach.

CAUTION: Do not add chlorine bleach to the laundry because you have previously treated the stain with ammonia. Ammonia and chlorine bleach react with one another to create a poisonous gas.

Removing Soy Sauce Stains by Running it under COLD Water The first plan of attack is using cold water. If you need to remove a soy sauce stain from a fabric that you can turn inside out, then run water through the backside of where the stain occured.

If you cannot turn the fabric inside out (i.e., a couch, pillow, carpet, etc.), then you need to get a cloth or paper towel wet and blot and dab the soy sauce stain repeatedly with COLD water to remove the most intense part of the stain and eventually to get the soy sauce stain out.

Hint: Make sure the stain is gone after washing, but before you place in the dryer or you may set the stain. Repeat if necessary.
