Home Improvement,Fashion & Cosmetics,Family & Parenting
Ever get irritated with the detergent advertisements that promise you a stain free tee shirt after your child comes back from playing football all muddy and dirty because the detergent fails to live up to its promise? As the saying goes, where there's life, there's mud. Dirt, stains, mud – they are all part of living day to day. This is especially true if you have children around the house.

Dirt and mud will be found somewhere along the way, even if the children are engaged in some other activity. Many youngsters enjoy playing with mud, dirt or in water puddles.

Follow these simple steps below that needs only simple household products to get a stain free cloth that you would think twice about letting your child wear it again!

Grab yourself a raw potato, slice it and rub the potato directly on the mud stains. Take the cloth and put it in a bucket of cold water for one hour and wash as usual.

Other than potatoes, salt is another fantastic absorbent of mud stains and works marvelously for carpets. Take some salt and sprinkle it on the mud stains directly and keep it undisturbed for some time to allow the salt to soak the stains. Then take a vacuum cleaner and vacuum the mud spot taking in the salt and mud stains. However, if mud stains are still present, then make a simple solution. Mix two cups of warm water with half cup peroxide. Take a sponge, dip it in the solution and dab the mud stain spot till all the stains are gone.

Did you know vinegar is also a very good cleaning agent apart from a fantastic cooking ingredient? Take the mud stained cloth and soak in vinegar overnight. Launder as usual the next day. A word of caution, never use the dryer to dry clothes until the stains have gone completely as once it the mud stains may never go.

Shaving cream is also a fantastic stain removing agent! You can clean wet mud stains using shaving cream by spraying it on the mud stained spot and keep it undisturbed for 10 minutes. Take a sponge and dab dry.

Cornstarch is another simple home item that can remove stains. If the mud has just been blotted on the cloth, take a lot of cornstarch and sprinkle it. Keep it undisturbed for 20 minutes and vacuum it dry. Take a stiff brush and brush of the dirt before vacuuming of the dirt. What about Dry Mud Stains?

Take a brush or butter knife and scrape off any excess dry mud that is on the surface. Then, put a cloth in a bucket of warm water and rub off any remaining dirt. These two steps can get rid of most of the dry mud. If some stains still remain and then it's time to bring out some ammonia! Mix quarter cup ammonia with one cup water, take a sponge and dab the stain. Keep it undisturbed for 20 minutes and finally wash the piece with warm water.

Instead of ammonia, you could also use a mixture of one tbsp borax with one cup of water. Take a sponge, dip it in the solution and dab the area.
