Buying Peugeot Used Cars - A Checklist to Check before Finalising the Deal

Business
When you buy Peugeot used cars, you’re looking for a reliable vehicle at a reasonable price. And if you know what to look for, where to go, you’ll get exactly that.

Buying a used car is an operation potentially fraught with difficulty. When you buy used vehicles from private sellers, you are bound by the British legal concept of “caveat emptor” – Latin for “buyer beware”, which basically means as soon as you’ve paid up, if the car blows up that’s tough.

So the first thing to consider when you’re looking at Peugeot used cars is where is the vehicle coming from? Unfortunately trusting private sellers, no matter how much you would like to be able to do so, is inadvisable – so you are bound by common sense to look to a proper garage – a dealership to use the legal terminology.

A dealership is bound by a different set of rules – the legal phrase that matters here is “fit for purpose”. Loosely speaking, what this means is this. When you buy Peugeot used cars from a dealership (doesn’t have to be a Peugeot dealership specifically, it just has to be a car trader), that dealer is bound to sell you something fit for its purpose. And that means a vehicle that will last for a reasonable amount of time, without requiring any major attention, for the price you paid.

So if you pay a few thousand pounds for Peugeot used cars, and they blow up after two weeks, your dealer is legally bound to replace the vehicle, refund you or find you an equal or better substitute or to fix it.

Buying your used Peugeot from a specifically Peugeot dealership gives you even more protection. Because you are now dealing with mechanics and garages trained in the art of servicing Peugeots – who are familiar with the make, all its models and the techniques preferred by Peugeot for carrying out maintenance.

Peugeot used cars purchased from an official dealership are generally subject to extensive warranties. They’ll have an unbroken service history, and will have been fully serviced and approved by Peugeot prior to being sold to you.

You may also buy yourself into a situation where you can trade your used Peugeot in at a future date to purchase a newer used model – again subject to Peugeot approved servicing and properly priced for its age and condition.

One of the things people often shy away from, with official Peugeot used cars from a recognised dealership, is the slightly higher price than that asked by non-official dealerships. The price difference is explained thus: only models specifically approved by Peugeot are sold; only Peugeot trained mechanics will work on them; and Peugeot-specific warranties and price offers, like free servicing after one year, are factored into the equation.

For peace of mind, it’s a dealer or nothing. So, buyer beware!
