For Indians planning to visit Ireland, it helps to know your visa rules. Northern Ireland, which is a part of the United Kingdom has different rules from the Republic of Ireland. If you know your geography, you’re bound to know that the Republic of Ireland is different from Northern Ireland. An Indian with a UK tourist visa is free to go on UK tours that include Northern Ireland. However, Ireland tours often comprise of Northern Ireland as well as the Republic of Ireland. Tourists who wish to enter the latter, need a separate visa that is valid for a minimum period of 3 months. Same with people who wish to enter Northern Ireland, and do not possess a UK visa. The visa requirements, in both cases, are the same. Visa Requirements When applying for a UK or Ireland visa, you are required to submit the following documents along with your visa application: • A passport that is valid for a period of 6 months, after your departure date. • An application form with all sections filled and signed wherever required. In case you’re a minor (below the age of 18) and travelling alone, you’re required to obtain the signature your parents or guardians. • Full details of the nature and purpose of your Ireland tours. For example, you need to specify whether you’re going to be in Ireland for business or as a tourist. • You also need to give details about your place of stay, for example, your hotel address. You also need to give the dates of your proposed stay and departure. • If you know someone in the country, you can ask them for a reference letter. The details of the reference letter have to be given, along with the relationship between you and the person, and their contact details. • You also need to give a written and signed statement saying you will observe all the rules and regulations of the country, and that you will in no way cause any kind of burden to the state of Ireland, and will leave on or before the date of expiry of your visa. • Evidence regarding your financial condition is also required. This is for determining how you plan to fund your Ireland tours. Copies of your bank statements for the last six month are required for this. • Finally, you need to provide evidence of return to your country of domicile. This to ensure that you leave the country, when you reach the end of your Ireland tour. The evidence may be given in the form of a letter from your employer, or a person of authority regarding your obligation to return. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Noshir Lavangia has been working in the travel industry since the last 15 years.
