This is a typical Jewish building, and its red external wall adorns pointed colonnade and the golden dome carries a silvery large satellite, which was shinning brightly under the sun. Comparing to these different kinds of magnificent or classic European architectures, this cathedral was very ordinary and low-key in Harbin, which called popular “Oriental Moscow”. Hence, many local people in Harbin ignore its existence. It is no deny that an old architecture gives people sensory pleasure and Aesthetic appreciation. And it has its history too. I believe the old architecture has its soul and will let the descendants remember what happened there. This Jewish building was built in 1921, which is also called New Synagogue. At that time, it was an important religious place and spiritual support of a great many Jews, who emigrated in Harbin. It was said there were many shields of Cupid, whose façade was golden “Ten Commandments”, which was written by Hebrew. When the activity of praying reached its climax, people in the cathedral will cry heartedly for their past homes and sufferings. Later on, because of historical reasons, many Jews left from Harbin and this cathedral was rebuilt to be a club. However, there are still some Jews in Harbin worshipping silently outside thechurch. As time goes, this cathedral got shaggy and became a luxurious nightclub in the 1980s. During these years, the local government repaired this cathedral and it was rebuilt to be a Jew museum in Harbin for residents and travelers to visit, which will confirm the early history of Harbin as follows: At the beginning of last century, many European countries had a crazy tide of repelling Jews, so many Jews had to leave their motherland. Those years Harbin was building its city and its kind and plain residents accepted these homeless Jews with their broad minds. In Harbin, Jews didn’t suffer from discrimination and persecution and they regarded the beautiful Songhua River as their home. Besides, they had truly experienced the local people’s generosity, sincerity and kindness, so they shared happiness and sorrow with them. As a consequence, they became good friends and said that they came from Harbin. In their heart, the memory of ling in Harbin couldn’t eradicate and they loved Harbin forever.
