For more than one hundred years, the Geneva fountain has been visited and admired by hundreds or thousands of visitors. It has gazed down a great many kings, princes and aristocrats, undergone the vicissitudes of life and witnessed people’s happiness and sorrow. In 1898, Austrian queen Qianqian was assassinated on the band when she rowed boat in the lake from the opposite restaurant of the fountain and. Since time brings a great change to the world, people couldn’t make sure that to these relics belong, but they are quite sure that there is a moving and fascinating story behind every relic. However, the “proud” fountain has its own dignity. Once there was a renowned chocolate company in the world putting forward an idea, that is, it intent to use color filters and laser beams to stain this white fountain in chocolate color. In spite of great temptations of money, the local government didn’t agree with them. Also there was another large foreign oil company wanted to stain fountains in blue color so as to please its president, who stayed in the Hilton Hotel opposite the fountains. The government refused it again. As we know, fountains stand for Geneva, so Geneva industrial company which is responsible for taking good care of fountains rejects any behavior that is not non-profit. In every October, some non-government organizations and communities will hold a fundraiser for breast cancer patients. During this special period, the fountains will make an exception to be stained in rosy color one night. With the Aids spreading around the globe, recently the fountains will also be sprayed written characters of “AIDS” and stained in different color so as to warn people on World AIDS Day.
