For many years I have been yearning to meet my uncle who is a physician in California. This summer I decided to meet him despite of my hectic schedule and other engagements. To make this a probability in all circumstances, I booked ticket in advance and to give a pleasant surprise to them and kept it a secret. My flight landed on time and I reached my uncle’s apartment within couple of hours of leaving the airport. The entire family was astonished to see me there at the door all of sudden. After brief discussion about the trip and other family members my uncle told me that he has now bought a Mac computer. He has been once such person who has a least affinity for computers and technology the result was obvious as he was facing difficulty in importing documents and data from his classic Windows to the new Mac running on iMac OS X. Thankfully, I was there to bail him out! Importing data from Windows to Mac is not easy as Mac OS X does not have any Windows Migration Assistant. However, you can transfer data and documents from a Windows PC to iMac by copying files manually from a CD or DVD from a USB Flash drive or via a network. I told my uncle about the Mac OS X Help system from where substantial help can be obtained regarding the importing of data and documents from Windows to iMac OX X system. It will also let you know about how to connect to a Windows network as well as the way to connect both the computers. However, this feature is not going to solve all the puzzles about data transfer between the two. As Snow Leopard cannot run Windows programs directly without the help of additional software so applications like Paint Shop Pro won’t help you in moving the documents. Still there are other ways with which you can move movies, photos, documents and music without a problem. Most of the data can be moved between Windows and Mac OS X with the help of an application that will help in opening those files and documents in Snow Leopard. This solved the problem of moving filed and documents from Windows to Mac computer. Being a software professional, I told my uncle about a software utility that can solve this data import problem in a jiffy. By just investing a few dollars you can get such applications that work as Migration Assistant and help you migrate the data from Windows to Mac. One such application is Move2Mac that comes with a special USB-to-USB cable that helps you connect both computers and enables high-speed copying. Using this software you can shortlist the items that you want to transfer to your Mac. The copying takes place automatically so you have almost nothing to do once you purchased the software. Moreover, it helps you transfer many other things such as your home page and bookmarks, desktop backgrounds, your contacts and e-mail account settings from your Outlook. It makes switching to iMac OS X an easy task. My uncle immediately went to purchase the software online and did all the data transfer instantly. With my suggestions and illustration he was looking lot more confident about getting his important files, documents and videos on his new Mac. This way my visit to the uncle’s home turned person to the professional. Anyways, it was a great fun and experience being there to help my uncle with my tech tips!!
