Near the city of Tbingen, there was a flowing Rhine, in the middle of which was a tower. Nowadays, people call it “Mouse's Tower” because of a legend. The story happened in 968, when a cruel bishop called “Hatto” in the Mainz city of Rhine. At that time, a famine took place in the Rhine and many people died of hunger, but this bishop stored a large stock of grain. Instead of relieving others, he filled his large warehouse with crops. With the famine becoming more and more serious, people gathered together in front of his palace and begged to him for his charity, but he wasn’t touched by them at all. Instead, he smiled and said that they suffered from hunger because of laziness, so he couldn’t help them. Nevertheless, poor people were still unwilling to leave. Finally, under pressure, the bishop had to agree to give them some bread and asked them to gather at an empty big barn on one morning. However, when people really went to the place, the bishop ordered his servants to close the barn and make fires. When his servants executed his commands, the bishop and his friends were sitting besides the table, eating and drinking, but the poor people were being burned. When hearing the heart-wrenching crying for help from the barn, Hatto said to his servant, “do you hear the mouse eating the millet?” Upon hearing his words, all the guests kept silent. But when Hatto wanted to have a great luncheon in celebration of his behavior, many big grey mouse crosses the window and ceiling, climbed into the house, jumped on the table and ate food in front of scared guests. The mouse became more and more and they eat all the things. Seeing that, the bishop’s servants and his guests scattered immediately out of the tower. Of course, the bishop was eager to run away, so he took a ship and turned into an island in the middle of Rhine. Originally, he thought he was safe in this tower. Unfortunately, mouse ran after him and ate this cruel bishop. After this legend about this lonely tower on Rhine, do you think that the bishop deserved it? Well, in my opinion, we should help others when they are in trouble instead of standing by. Finally, are you interested in this mouse tower?
