Once there was a young beautiful girl. Born in a wealthy family, she was versatile, so lots of matchmakers came to her home and hospitably recommended rich men to her, but she was still unwilling to get married, for she looked forward to finding the perfect man. One day, when she was having a work in a temple, she caught sight of a young boy among the crowds of people, and she realized that he was just the man that she awaited for a long time. Nevertheless, it was so crowded that she couldn’t get close to him, only to see him disappearing in the crowd. Afterwards, the young girl looked for the man here and there, but the young man seemed to evaporate from the earth and didn’t appear any more. She felt very sad and prayed to Buddha every morning. Eventually, Buddha was moved by her sincerity, so it turned up and helped her realize her dream. “Do you want to see the man again?” Buddha asked her. “Yes, even if it’s a glimpse!” “Are you willing to give up everything, including your families and happy life?” Buddha asked her again. “I am willing to give up everything so as to meet him.” The girl showed her perseverance to love. “But you must practice for 500 years. Don’t you regret that?” Buddha continued. “I won’t regret it later on.” The girl answered firmly. Then the girl became a big stone and lay in the wild place. To the girl, the 499 years of the exposure to the sunshine and wind weren’t bitter at all, instead, she felt every sad and helpless without seeing the perfect man during 499 years. In the last year, there came a stone cutter and she was taken way as material for building bridge in the city. Thus she became a guardrail of a stony bridge. On the first day of completing the stony bridge, the girl saw the man that she had waited for 500 years, but he walked in a hurry and quickly walked across the bridge. Of course, the man wouldn’t be aware of a stone, who gazed at him. Finally, the man disappeared again. “Are you satisfied with this encounter with him?” Buddha appeared and asked her suddenly. “Yes, it is very worth seeing him and I am satisfied.” The girl smiled with tears in her eyes.
