Five Typical Mistakes Runners Make

Sports
It takes an injury or possibly fatigue for a runner to realize that he or she may not be running right. Sadly, there are several common running mistakes that runners may not know they are actually doing. The best way to really assess the way a person runs is through a gait analysis by the use of a motion analysis camera. However, off the bat it would be good to recognize the running mistakes being made so that it can be corrected immediately to avoid any unnecessary torture and discomfort.

Here are Five Common Running Mistakes and Tips on How to Correct Them:

1. Mileage - In running, the rule is to intensify mileage by a maximum of 10% a week. The thing is, this is merely a general rule and doesn't work for everyone. Those who aren't feeling right and are often experiencing fatigue may be intensifying their runs too much. To correct this, simply take it easy with mileage progression for a few weeks and lessen the running distance. This will bring a runner back to experiencing healthy and fun runs.

2. Speed - Fatigue and body pains can also be caused by hard training. Those who keep pushing themselves to run harder too often will certainly experience fatigue. Hard workouts can be anything from an intensified tempo, to speed, and even fast progression. The way to correct this problem is by building a base of simple workouts before advancing to harder runs. Remember it is always better to run with effort and not with pace. Runners who do a gait analysis will be able to properly analyze the ideal running pace for them.

3. Terrain - Running from a treadmill to running on the roads actually influences the body and causes fatigue. Even if the same pace is run it still is different and a runner won't feel the same. Those who are thinking of running outdoors instead after coming from a treadmill should ease into it slowly. Start with one run outside every 1-2 weeks until the body gets used to the outdoor terrain. With a motion analysis camera runners will be able to compare their running efficiency from indoors to outdoors.

4. Elements - As seen in any gait analysis, heat can really slow down the performance and efficiency of a runner and cause fatigue. When outside elements aren't cooperating, this can affect the body of a runner. If it is hot out, it will certainly take the body more effort to keep itself cool during hot weather. The solution to this is to run regardless of the weather. This will get the body used to anything that comes.

5. Recovery - Fatigue and muscle pains are all dependent on the stress a runner is experiencing, as opposed to the level of recovery. The recovery needed is based upon the stress h is going through. In order to get through this, the runner must have rest days. Using a motion analysis camera will help runners monitor their performance and at the same time know when it is time for rest.
