Robert. Philip, an American specialist in personality analysis accepted a tramp in his office. Because his firm of processing marbles went bankrupt, so this tramp was heavily in debt and had to leave his wife and daughter and wandered here and there. He came into and greeted to Robert, “I come here to see the author of this book.” Then he took out a book named “confidence” from his pocket, which had been written by Robert many years ago. “It must be the god of fate that put this book into my pocket yesterday afternoon, because I decided to jump into Lake Michigan to end my life. At that time, I had been disappointed with everything. I think every people, including god, have abandoned me. Fortunately, I read this book, which brings valor and hope to me and support me to get through yesterday evening. Now I determine to meet the author of this book, for I believe he will help me stand up again. Now, I come here and desire to know what you can do for me.” When he was talking, Robert looked him over and found that his vague eyes, depressed wrinkles, unshaved beards and nervous expression, which completely indicated to him that he had been hopeless. Nevertheless, Robert was unwilling to tell that to him. Hence, he asked the tramp to sit down and tell his story to him fully.” After hearing his story, Robert thought a while and said, “Although I can’t help you, but I can introduce you to meet a person in this big building, and he will help you to make money that you lost in the past, and then help you to come back.” Upon hearing that, the tramp jumped from his seat immediately, seized Robert’s hand and said excitedly, “For god’s sake, Could you lead me to meet this person?” In Robert’s opinion, this tramp asked for this demand for god’s sake, which had indicated that hope still existed in his heart. Hence, Robert took his hand, led him to his psychological laboratory, and stood in front of a curtain with him. Then Robert opened the curtain, and a tall and large mirror appeared at once. This tramp saw himself in the mirror and realized that only himself that could save him. Later on, the tramp really come back and became a rich man of Chicago.
