Li Ka-shing was born in Chaozhou, Guangdong in 1928. When he was three years old, his father was seriously ill and died in 1942. In order to support his mother and three elder sisters and brothers, he had to quit school. In the years of wars, they led a rather hard life. As the oldest son of his family, he had to help his mother to bear the heavy burden of his family. One boss of a teahouse showed sympathy for them and adopted sixteen-year-old Li Ka-shing to work in the teahouse, which was open before dawn but wasn’t closed until midnight. At that time, he also complained his fate was bad and wished Japanese would fire at him and he would die. But it was one occasion that made him show love to life. At that day, he was so tired that he carelessly spilled boiling water on the ground and wetted a customer’s trouser. Of course, he was very nervous and waited for customers’ palms and boss’ rebukes. To his surprise, the customer didn’t blame for him at all, instead, the customer talked for him and asked the boss not to fire him. “It doesn’t matter, and in my opinion, this child is very promising. As long as he remembers to be careful with everything he does, he will be outstanding one day.” Unexpectedly, Li Ka-shing remembered his words from in heart and from then on, he regarded caution as his creed. Gradually, he had a pair of keen eyes that he could guess other people’s occupation, personality, habit, attitude and ability when he met them at first sight, which will make a great influence on his later career. Also it is because these words that makes him dayday up, and become the wealthiest Chinese in the world. After reading his story, I fall into thought. To some degree, it is no deny that we were born unequally, for some of us were born in rich families, but some of us were born in poor families, however, we should realize that your hard work will change bad situations and you will become outstanding one day. On the contrary, if you are obsessed with yourself and unwilling to work hard to support yourself, you will waste your youth and fall far behind others.
