In 2006, a boy dropped out of high school and took his dream to Beijing. When he arrived at Beijing, he thought it was easy to be a salesman or shop assistant, but the fact wasn’t as he expected. People will wave hands when they saw his rustic clothing and nonlocal accent. Quickly, two months passed away, and when he had no money, a fellow villager found him and asked him to be a waiter in a restaurant. At the time, he had lost confidence, so he was unwilling to accept his advice. Hence, he became a waiter who carried trays. When he started to do this job, he was unhappy at all. Despite he was thin, he wasn’t afraid of hard or tired work, but he couldn’t bear customers’ commanding expressions and vulgar voices. After a week, he drew in his horns. When he expressed his opinion to head chef, he was criticized seriously. “If you can’t carry trays well, then what you can do in the future? You had better go home as soon as possible instead of working in Beijing.” The head chef’s words stimulated his obstinacy. “Yes, even if I dislike this job, since I do it, I should do it best instead of being looked down on.” He thought. From then on, he carefully carried trays. Gradually, he found it was not so easy to carry trays well, in fact, he had to learn how to communicate with customers and recommend delicious meals to them. In order to play his role well, he tried to remember names of hundred dishes and have a good knowledge of their features and ingredients. Quite different from other watiers, he paid much attention to his grooming. Every day after work, he would insist on washing his head, having a bath and washing his clothes. Before long, customers caught sight of him and said, “This young boy is very smart.” Every time when he was praised by customers, he would become very happy. Gradually he became the key waiter in the restaurant and his wage rose again and again. Nowadays, among all waiters who carry trays in Beijing or even in China, his wage is the No.1. Besides, he uses his own diligence and wisdom to win customers’ respect from the bottom of their hearts. After reading this story, I have learnt much from it.
