“Deformity never prevents me from being a free person. Without arms, I can still master happy life.” Hsieh said. What will you do if you lose your arms? How far will you walk if you lose a leg? What will your world become if you have only one eye? Hsieh came across these unfortunate premises. When he was 16 years old, he touched high-voltage electric and lost his two arms and one leg, afterwards, he lost an eye in an accident. At first sight, he seemed very unlucky, but he became renowned star in the whole Taiwan. His story had been made into a TV play, and American “Readers Digest” introduced his experiences in dozens of languages. When he was awoken in the hospital, people around him persuaded his mother not to save him, for his illness was so serious. “I want to save his life in any case. As long as he could call me mama, everything is enough.” His mother told to the doctor. After the surgery, Hsieh survived and he promised to his mother that he would live doggedly. Instead of depending on others, Hsieh tried to solve basic problems and cultivate good habits and interests in his daily life. Every day there was a big smile on his face, fore he looked for reasons to make him happy everyday. Because he wasn’t equipped with artificial limbs, children saw him on the road would shout to their mother and laughed at him. “Dear kids, don’t laugh at him, otherwise, he will be very sad.” Many young mothers hugged their children and said. Nevertheless, Hsieh never avoided talking about his deformity or staying in the room, instead, he would try to spend one day being as a volunteer to help helpless people every month. “It is my pleasure to help others. In the process of getting along with them, I suddenly become powerful and think the world is quite harmonious as long as we love others.” Nowadays, besides drawing, Hsieh is always invited to have lectures at school, community or churches. It is no deny that he is a good example for us to learn from. His endurance, perseverance and optimism make him charming among a group of ordinary people. To be honest, when I hear about his story, I have an important lesson from it. Hence I remind myself to enrich myself every day by developing hobbies and helping others in the daily life.
