Natural Disasters are things that cannot be controlled, and there is no saying how much damage it will do or how long it is going to last. What can be done is, taking safety measures to ensure that you and your family are safe and has enough food and water for a week or two. Some of the most common Natural Disasters are Tornados, Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Flood, Wildfires (Forest fire), Avalanches and Tsunami. Tornados are one of the most destructive and deadly forces of nature. Tornados are winds that swirl around itself to form a funnel shape that is lowered by low hanging clouds and moves along the earth devouring everything in its path of destruction. The swirling winds generate a lot of momentum and can exceed speeds up to 320 miles per hour (500Km/h). This is enough speed to lift a fully loaded truck and fling it 2 or 3 miles away and destroy three floored apartments in a matter of seconds. Safety measures taken in case of a Tornado are an equipped storm cellar or basement. In case there is no basement hide under a sturdy table or metal cot. Overturn a thick mattress on yourself in a tub. Hurricanes are Gale force winds that form out in the open sea, due to the depression of air these winds then form a low pressure atmosphere and this in turn attracts the surrounding storm clouds to become a Cyclone. Seen from space with satellite pictures, it forms a huge hole in the atmosphere called the eye of the storm. August to October is Hurricane season in America. Hurricanes occur along the coasts of the Caribbean Sea and The Gulf Of Mexico. The wind speeds of a Hurricane Storm can reach up to 150 Miles per hour, which is enough to topple cars, trucks and houses. The waves that crash on the coast line during a Hurricane are 15 to 20 foot and often enter towns and cities. Safety measures taken in case of a Hurricane are an equipped storm cellar, canned food and fresh water for the family for 2 to 3 weeks, carry currency in case of power black-out, fuel in the car and other basic essentials. Earthquake is the friction that happens beneath the earth’s surface. When two tectonic plates expand they cause the earth to fracture on the surface and there is lots of vibration in the earth causing buildings to topple and creating huge voids in the ground where it opens up with huge cracks 60 to 100 feet apart. Earthquakes happening in the sea can be more dangerous because it triggers Volcanoes and causes seismic waves (Tidal Waves) or Tsunamis, which is a 50 foot wall of water which stretches for miles. During an Earthquake it is a must to rush outside without panicking, if caught indoors take shelter under heavy objects like table or a cot. Stay away from glass and other falling objects. When outdoors stay clear of buildings and trees. Be prepared for aftershocks and go indoors only after the tremors completely cease. Wildfire is another disaster waiting to happen during the summer. Wildfire is caused naturally or by human errors, either way it is very destructive and burns out millions of acres of wildlife and causes immense property damage incarnating small towns located by the forest. The only precaution that can be taken in case of a Wildfire is to gather your valuables and evacuate as soon as possible.
