Article Marketing Tips: Writer's Block Is A Sham

Internet,Marketing
Article marketing is one of the most popular website marketing tools because it is accessible to just about everyone. Most of the time it's done by business owners themselves. It just involves writing articles and submitting them to online publishers.

That sounds easy enough, but most business owners are not in the habit of writing articles before starting to submit articles. They are quite used to writing emails and maybe letters or blog posts, but not articles.

So, if you're just starting to market your website with articles, and you're feeling a little awkward, you can know that you fit in with the rest of the crowd! There is a learning process that most people go through where they learn to write articles.

So, you begin the learning process. You write your first article, and then your second and third, and eventually your twentieth. The more you write, the easier it gets. You start to feel more comfortable, and writing articles isn't such a big deal any more.

Then one day, for some inexplicable reason, you sit down at your desk and you can't write. At least that's what it feels like. You feel like your mind is set in concrete, and you can't string two thoughts together.

What happened?

This is what is commonly called "writer's block". It happens to professional writers and to novices alike. It is an equal opportunity annoyer.

If you're suffering from writer's block, you can feel a twinge of pleasure because you're actually starting to have problems that real writers have. Welcome to the writer's club!

Contrary to how writer's block feels, it's not that you can't write. You can still write just as well as you did previously. You haven't forgotten how to form a sentence. It's just that suddenly you've become concerned that you won't be able to write up to your standards. Writer's block is a mental hurdle that pops up when we become overly concerned with our writing performance.

What's going on with not being able to write an article when previously you wrote just fine? And how can you get out of it? Here are 3 tips for overcoming writer's block:

1 - You are not supposed to be able to write a polished article in one sitting.

Most writers (including professionals) write in drafts--first draft, second draft, etc. When you're writing your drafts, forget about "the rules". Give yourself permission to mess up, and don't be so on top of yourself for every nuance and grammatical point of the article.

You will eventually fine tune your article and polish it during the editing and proofreading stage, but you only need to polish things up after your article has been written (not during the writing process).

2 - Give yourself a warm up time.

You can just start typing anything for your warm up--type emails, your grocery list, gibberish, or a page from your favorite book. The idea is to get your fingers moving and your mind functioning in writing mode. I've heard lots of people say that they have a much easier time writing after having warmed up.

3 - Call a friend.

If you don't want to type, you can also warm up by talking to a friend. That may sound odd, but having a conversation is basically putting your thoughts into words and stringing words together. Communicating by talking is very similar to communicating by writing.

These are just a few tips for getting your mind back in gear so that you can start writing again. Just remember--relax, don't give up on yourself, and approach your writing from a different angle. It's not that you can't write. You will eventually be able to write articles again.
