Faridabad is a well known city located in the south east part of Haryana state in India. The district is a prominent place in the National capital region (NCR). Gurgaon district, an another important place of NCR is located to its west and Uttar Pradesh encompasses this place on its east and south. This place holds a significant role in geographical and political aspect. It is a vital industrial hub of Haryana. Faridabad is known for Heena production and industrial products included motorcycles, tractors, refrigerators and tyres. Yamuna is the main river and it is attractively located on the plains of the river. Where the holy river Yamuna comes to its east the mighty Aravali Hills is located to the west and south west. Based on the historical evidences, it is said that the city was founded by Sheikh Farid in 1607. The place was formed with a vital object to protect the Grand Trunk Road which is at present known as National Highway 2. The place boasts of a old mosque, a tank and an antique fort which was structured by the Sheikh Farid and it is said that the place got its name after this eminent personality. The present Faridabad district was formed on 15 August 1979. It was treated an industrial town since the past when refugees were populated this place after partition. The Indian Government has taken the initiate for developing this place during that period. The place has some tourists attractions included Baba Farid Tomb, Badhkal Lake and Raja Nahar Singh Palace. Aravalli Golf Course, Dabchik, a scenic station and St.George Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church and St.Mary’s Orthodox Church are some other tourist places of Faridabad. Town Park, Rose Gardens, Shirdi Sai Baba Temple and Shiva Temple are some nearby attractions to visit. The Suraj Kund Mela, a crafts fair is a famous event and it is organized near the Suraj Kund Lake every year in the month of February. The fair holds the glimpse of the well nurtured arts and crafts of the different states of India. Faridabad mostly offers the north Indian cuisine. Some local chaats are unique with its unbeatable taste and its chilled lassi is quite famous among tourists. The Hinduism is the predominant religion of this place along with Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Christianity. Harijans, Rajputs, Banias, Ahirs, Jats, Gujars and Brahmans are the local inhabitants of this place. Faridabad has three railway stations and by rail the place is well connected with the major places of India. Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi is the nearest airport of this place. The National Highway-2 runs through this city. By road the place is well linked with the surrounding places. The place offers semiarid and hot climate and it faces the high humidity during the monsoons. Badkhal Lake was located in Badkhal village, 8 km from Delhi Border. The lake fringed by Aravalli hills was a man-made embankment. Owing to unchecked mining in the neighbouring Aravallis, the lake has totally dried up.
