Once a wise man and his disciple walked on the beach and saw the white waves roaring as high as heaven. “When you see the billowing sea, what do you think of?” The wise man asked his disciple. “I think of my own heart and restless mind.” The disciple answered. “Yes. The billowing sea is just like our hearts and the roaring wave is our mind. But in fact, our hearts are quiet like water when we are born. And water should be tranquil like a mirror. The waves rise from the sea because of wind, and our mind is filled with thoughts because of our terrors and lusts.” The wise man said. “The most terrible thing is we are faced with this situation. The heart is like a boat and goes with the flow. ” The wise man said, “All living things and mortal life exist like s unconsciously. If you are in a small boat without rudder, your heart will be rolling like boiling water. The endless desires will control your hearts like wild wind stirs the sea.” The disciple bowed to him in a hurry, “I follow you only to keep my heart peaceful.” The wise man touched his beard and smiled, “If you want to make the sea peaceful, you should stop the wind from stirring instead of controlling salt water. The wind in your heart is your thought, desire and terror. Never let lust and terror control your heart, instead, you should let your heart to control desire and terror. Only then can your inner sea become peaceful.” “I wait for the master’s further explanation.” The disciple said. “If the sea won’t be affected by wind, then what will happen?” The wise man asked his disciple. “Then the sea will be peaceful. But dear master, who can stop the wind?” The disciple got confused. The wise man smiled with a sense of mystery, “If you master your heart well, there will be no wind, sea or lust.” Suddenly the disciple was enlightened and went back to the temple with the wise man. From then on, the disciple got rid of fickleness and enjoyed leading a quiet life.
