Understanding Mechanism of Bait for Flies is Necessary

Home Improvement,Health,Family & Parenting
Fly baits are manufactured to attract flies to a poison that they cannot detect. The reason why fly baits are simply more effective than fly traps are because of the natural attractants that lures the flies.

Fly baits have been proven effective for fly control in and around structures by using some of the most powerful attractants like attractive aromas, pheromones, colors, and sugars.

Ingestion poison is also a more efficient way of eradicating infestations whereas some of the glue traps do not promise efficacy. Also, fly baits provide long term control. With lots of factors in the surrounding environment, glue boards are vulnerable to dust build up, non-target insect build up, and also must be kept in favorable conditions so that the glue does not become ineffective. If it is necessary, fly baits can provide long lasting control, however, the power of fly baits do not even require more than a couple months for a homeowner or a business owner to notice a significance drop in the fly population that surrounds the structure. How to Use Fly Baits

Fly baits come in several different forms to accommodate the area that you are targeting. You can paint or spray on water soluble liquid fly baits to areas of concentrated infestations like around the dumpster or on sign posts that are located directly outside of your business. Fly baits are not limited to just use around commercial areas. Fly baits in the granular form can be applied as broadcast treatments outside of the residential area or placed in bait stations.

Keep in mind that all pesticide product labels and the material safety data sheet should be reviewed before application.

Fly bait insecticides are among some of the most reliant insecticides against flies. Fly baits are great for restaurants and other eateries when trying to prevent flies from getting in.

Trapping Flies

* To add the bait, slide the top up the string and drop in bait. If your bait is runny, place a piece of paper (or wire screen) under the bait so that insects do not drown. * Set trap in a tree so that rodents (or children) will not be enticed. To protect the flies from heat stress, place the trap in a shaded area. Depending on the weather, season, the bait and the amount of time the trap is left outside, the trap may attract other insects. Be watchful for honey bees.

Handling Flies

* After retrieving the trap, place it in a refrigerator or ice chest (with ice) for one hour until the flies fall to the bottom. Prolonged chilling may kill them. All the insects in the trap will be chilled and not fly away. Work quickly as the insects may recover rapidly. At this time, separate the flies and other insects from the bait and dispose of bait appropriately. You can handle the insects with tweezers being careful not to pinch off wings, legs or squeezing them too hard. Release other insects outside and place flies in observation chamber and leave at room temperature to resume normal activity. * After completing the observation and activity, release the flies. If you need to use flies for experiments the next day, place a piece of apple or wet raisins in the container for the adult flies.
