During the World War Two, British high universities were filled with dense atmosphere of war, and many young people who should go to school youth were killed on the battleship or prepared to go to the front. Just that year, seventeen- year-old Margaret determined to apply for department of chemistry of Oxford University. One day, Margaret took a very simple chemical problem to ask father, who patiently explained it and confusedly asked, "Now it is at war, don't you think it is untimely to take an examination?" Margaret said without hesitation, "Entering Oxford University is my ambition, so I can not miss every chance." Then her father asked: "but you are not good at chemistry, why must you choose it?" She smiled, "Influenced by you, I have been fond of chemistry since I was a child!" Margaret went to Oxford University and visited the headmaster, who read her resume, frowned and said: "You haven’t had a Latin class, so how can you pass the entrance examination? (Before1960, people who want to enter Oxford University must understand Latin.)" Margaret said calmly, "I can make a breakthrough in Latin." The headmaster shook his head and said: "you can only apply for it only you graduate from high school next year!" Margaret answered confidently, "I may apply for gradeskipping!" The headmaster was infected by this stubborn girl and reluctantly agreed to let her have a try. After going home, Margaret was in high spirit and learnt Latin and Chemistry from dawn to night. Everything comes to him who waits, 3 months later, she successfully went through the advanced placement exam and Oxford University entrance examination. Margaret felt very thrilled and said to her father, "Thank you for your understanding and support. If I can't pass the Oxford entrance examination in a short time, it will be much more difficult in the future!" Looking at her father’s puzzled expression, she explained, "The amount of applying for entering Oxford will increase greatly after the war ends, so it will be more difficult." At the moment, her father was suddenly enlightened. Margaret‘s full name is Margaret. Hilda. Roberts. As the first female leader of British conservative party, Margaretoften ascribed her success to the current situation rather than her ability.
