The process of American immigration is not very easy. One has to know about US immigration laws and procedures which are subject to constant amendments from time to time. It is wise to consult a US Immigration lawyer before filing for a visa to the USA. The lawyer provides you with all the information and assists you in the entire process. Once you have grabbed your immigrant visa, you can apply for a Green Card. These processes can ensure that you earn the status of a permanent resident of the USA. The Green Card which is also known as the Permanent Resident Card gives you the status of a permanent resident but it does not allow to be a citizen of the country. The person can reside there retaining his original nationality and enjoy most of the benefits enjoyed by the citizens of the country. But American immigration is not complete without attaining the citizenship specially, for a person who wants to reside there permanently. The procedure for acquiring US citizenship is quite complex and it takes several years to get completed. However, there is an easy way out. According to The Immigration and Nationality Act of the US a foreign born person can apply for the naturalized citizenship of the US if he or she has served in any of the five branches of these US military sections. - Department of US Army
- Department of US Air Force
- Department of Navy
- Department of Navy Office of the USMC
- US Coast Guard
- Department of Homeland Security
A person above the age of eighteen and having resided in the US for thirty months in a period of five years has to serve for a year in the armed forces. No matter it is war time or peace time, the person can be eligible to apply for citizenship after living for thirty months at a stretch. The person must also possess a moral character as outlined by the constitution of the US. He must have a good understanding of the English language and knowledge of the history and civics of USA. Finally the person has to take an oath of allegiance to the country before he or she is accorded with the US citizenship.
