RFID in the waste management application has a long tradition and several installations are operating well by using RFID TAGs in household bins to invoice the production of waste by use. Based on the long term RFID experience and on requests from international customers who are active in the waste management area, Nephsystem Technologies has built a bundle of RFID system technology especially for the use in rugged environment. The RFID bundle consists of rugged handheld PDA with LF RFID TAG (transponder) mounted in the chip nest of wheelie bins. The handheld RFID based system (N260 Series) that could identify a recycling bin by its household by using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips embedded in the bins. Bins are scanned and weighed right at the curb, and the system tallies credits for households that are above average for recycling. This handy device also has capabilities of combining together with other wireless, locating systems including GPS and Barcode scanner, plus its optional GPRS transmitter, the handheld system makes the recycling industry smarter and greener. The industrial PDA can be easy handled by taking it out of the vehicle cradle to use it to read transponders on bins manually. The PDA can also be used in parallel as a board computer and supports the truck driver with the GPS function and inbuilt car navigation option.
