Poster designing is one of the ancient forms of art used to advertise, publicise an event or a business organisation. They are also used by protesters to communicate with the mass. The posters may contain pictures or textual description and are designed to be informative and eye catching to attract viewers. Posters are designed on papers or- vinyl to be attached to a wall or any other surfaces. From ancient times handwritten posters were in use to be hung walls at public places but with the advancement of printing technologies poster making has become viral. Today many business organisations hire professional designers for making posters and many are choosing poster designing as a career option. History of Poster designing- Poster designing has been a part of the society for over 200 years. Earlier textual posters were used to make the citizens aware of the government’s proclamation. Then in Shakespearian time they were used to inform the event timings. But in late 19th century with the invention of printing techniques the posters became a cheap method for mass communication. Gradually they became a media for commercial publicity. A nice poster should be rich in content and attractive. Railway boards also use posters to promote railways and inform mass about their various projects and inauguration programmes. •Event posters music companies, bands, drama companies use posters to attract people to their events. Posters are also used for the promotions of various sporting events. •Publications used by publishing houses for the promotion of new books are comic books. These are mainly pictorial posters containing the front page of the books. •Educational posters posters for seminars, paper publication etc are categorised under educational posters. In schools and colleges posters are used for fests, special workshops, seminars etc.
