Having ear deformities can be embarrassing. Maybe you never realized you had a congenital deformity. Maybe you just knew that there was something different about your ears that caused you to get teased as a child and get strange looks as an adult. Some people can deal with a little teasing as a child, and many adults end up getting married to someone who does not have a problem with the deformity. There are other people who suffer from ear deformities that are not able to cope with the problem. As they get ready in the morning, that might be all they think about. There are many types of ear deformities. You could have extra large or extra small ears, or any number of other possible abnormalities. Sometimes these ear deformities are connected with another problem such as Down syndrome or CHARGE syndrome. Both of these issues have a myriad of other problems that can be associated with them. Parents who have children with these issues might feel bad about wanting to change their child's appearance. Just do what is best for your child that is within your capabilities. That is all you can do. If you are financially able to have it done, you might consider it. With so many other issues, why have to deal with one that is more visibly apparent? If you do not deal with it when they are children, they might have to deal with all that goes with it through childhood and into adulthood. As an adult, you might have tried a variety of things to cover your ear deformities. If you are a woman, perhaps long hair is something you have always had. Maybe you would like short hair though. It is possible to have these problems taken care of at an ENT Plastic surgeon. If you are a man, it might be harder to cover the issue if you do not prefer hair to cover your ears. You might just feel like you need to be tough and go with it, but it really could be affecting you in areas that you do not realize. Adults should not judge based on another adult's appearance, but this often happens without someone even realizing they are doing it. You might lose out on that promotion because they think you do not have the confidence for it. The same could happen if you had an interest in a man or woman and you were too embarrassed about your issue to speak to them. As an adult, you might have more resources than your parents did when you were small. Do not use the fact that they did not take care of it as an excuse. Many things have changed over the years, and now doctors have the capabilities they may not have had at that time. As an adult, you may now have the ability to deal with any ear deformities in a way that was not possible when you were a child.
