Mr Roy a busy executive in a multinational company in Delhi had no time for himself or his family. He had to visit Bengal on a work tour. Being an efficient worker he finished off his work in three days and suddenly realized that since he had a prior booking for his return. He had a couple of days to spare, initially he tried to get his return booking preponed but as no seats were available on the flight he had to stay back. Suddenly Mr.Roy remembered that he had a relative staying in a small moforsal township of Midnapur whom he hadn’t met for a long time. He decided to visit this relative of his and thus began a journey which would suddenly shake him up and awaken him from the stupor of everyday life. Mr.Roy paid a visit to his relative with a box of sweets and some gifts for the children. Having spent a couple of days of his humdrum life at his relatives he decided to take the midnight train to Kolkata so as to take next days flight to Delhi. With all the curtsies over after dinner he left for the station. At the station in this sleepy township he suddenly woke upto the realities of life. The station had also gone off to sleep, except a lone ticket checker at the Railway station there weren’t any people on the dimly lit platform. Not having any other alternative he decided to wait for his train at the platform. Finding a bench to sit on in the dark and empty platform was very easy. As Roy was dosing off on the bench suddenly a young man appeared and requested him if he could share the bench. Immediately Roy’s suspicions were up and he asked him why he couldn’t sit somewhere else as the whole station was empty. The Bengali youth replied that was the very reason he wanted to sit there as he was feeling very scared in the empty platform. Roy a gregarious person by nature decided two were company and started a conversation with the youth. In the meanwhile they were joined by a third person a medical representative by profession. In Bengal as most discussions do the conversation led to political directions and Roy had a detailed lesson on the political situation of Bengal. In the long years of communist rule of the state the complete society had turned into a political drama. The common man had to have some political affiliation or the other to survive. As otherwise he was completely isolated and even normal day to day activities became difficult. Roy a man with open psychology and an absolutely different background tried to argue against it but was put down by the practical reality of Bengal. The conversation was suddenly interrupted by a loud argument between the ticket Checker and a drunk man. After his emphatic argument with the ticket checker this drunk man with two large bags of books walked across and plonked himself on the same bench. Since the rest of the three people sitting there were not locals he introduced himself as Godai Chakravarty. Getting no response from the others he started telling about himself. He was a famous footballer of yesteryears a very well known figure in the whole area. He had even been invited for selection twice in one of the major ‘A’ division clubs of Kolkata ( Damdama Lake )but was rejected due to political overtones. His father who used to be the station Master of the Midnapur station finally got him a chance to play for the ‘B’ division club of BNR(Bengal Nagpur Railway). In his frustration Godai had become a drunk and ( Damdama lake Resort )creating nuisance was a regular way of life with him. Somewhere in between to survive Godai became a commission agent selling books. ( Dream Island Resort )
