Today India is fast turning into a surrogacy hub for childless couples. In this highly technological world remote solutions such surrogacy is fast catching up. The government of Gujarat has branded it as a “ reproductive tourism” and described it as practice of money spinning for economicaly weak people. Therefore commercial surrogacy has become an issue of debate. This has also been termed as womb-on-rent because a woman bears a child for someone else. India surrogates are mostly women from poor socio economic background that are paid somewhere between 2-3 lakhs for bearing the child of foreigners or NRI couples. In a recent article it was published that apart from empowering surrogate mothers it is also bringing revenue to the state. Infertility clinics are mushrooming all over India but it is sad fact that there are some which are only concerned about the end-product which is the child. The pattern is same whosoever are the parents and parental surrogacy in India is often less costly and complicated than in US. The question of ethics are being raised for mothers that are paid for bearing children of infertile couples. It is definitely not easy for a mother to carry a child for nine months and then give up the baby to someone else. Some reputed doctors that did not wished to be named in surrogacy centers in India said that cynics can only argue about the issue of morality but can they give the surrogates a sense of financial independence and child to infertile couples? They feel that they are working for a noble cause. On the other end due to lack of proper laws in surrogacy, many couples from west decide not to choose India to have their baby. Coming up with a surrogacy bill will help both parties. According to experts the presence of law rein enforces the person's confidence. No doubt surrogacy has been termed as well accepted and sound medical process in Assisted Reproductive Technology( ART). Today many parents are going for IVF-surrogacy in which the ooycte( egg cell) of mother is fertilized with sperm of father through IVF process. The embryo formed is placed in the womb of the surrogate woman with a healthy uterus so that she can nurture the baby for nine months. In this way the baby biologically and genetically belongs to the parents. If India is unwilling to regulate any kind of surrogate bill then the internal community should pressurize it. Since this has become a global industry the international law and global fertility should be able to regulate otherwise unhealthy practices will continue to grow. Since Delhi has some of the best fertility centre in India, it is already in favour of this bill.
