If you purchased a new computer, this will come packaged in the box, and if you have installed the software yourself, you will find the cd in the original cases. Look for this piece, as it will be crucial to fixing your problem. Once you’ve located the cd, go ahead and start your system with the installation disc in the drive. You will see a set up screen, at this point you will have to wait for the system to boot up, and then you will be given a prompt to select a language. Click next, or select the language you need. At this point you’ll need to select from a prompt, click on “Repair your computer” link and you’ll be taken forward into the process of installation. You will want to choose what system to repair, and at this point you will need to remember where you installed the operating system. The majority of computer users install it on hard drive C: while some might have it on D: when in doubt, try the first and then the latter. After you’ve selected next, you will need to click on the “Command” prompt that is at the bottom of a list of tools for recovery. Then move forward with the following steps: #1 Type out the following prompts “copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\” and press Enter #2 Type out the following prompts “copy /y c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe” and press Enter. #3 Reboot your computer system at this point. #4 After the reboot, you’ll need to type out “net user username password” and replace both username and password with whatever you would like to utilize. #5 Exit and reboot your computer. #6 Hit the shift key five times in order for the command prompt to pop up, then use your new password to log into your computer The above are the basic steps to getting a new password when you’ve forgotten yours. Each system can be different, so if this does not work for you, you’ll have to try again utilizing your Windows disc.
