The most essential purpose of these tags was to identify soldiers during war times if they themselves weren’t in the condition to do so. This was practically the sole reason for the existence of the tags and it was mandatory for each and every soldier to carry one around. But with the passage of time the tags transformed into many other avatars in many creative ways and were accepted into a much wider culture. The tags never had any major advertising to promote their fashion statement or usage. Similarly Luggage tags can be imprinted with the owner’s name and number and other useful information to aid in the identification. They come in quite handy at airports and railway or bus stations where there may be large number of identical looking luggage. In such cases with the tags the baggage will be quite difficult to differentiate. Another very practical use is to string in the keys along with the tags on the ball chain. Such Keyrings, not only keep the keys at a safe location that is usually around the neck, but also is helpful in case of loss or confusion of the keys because the keys now have some information about the owner with them. The tags can also be used to depict important information related to the medical history of a person like severe allergies or some other critical medical conditions such as epilepsy or some heart disease or other such conditions. This information becomes even more useful in case of children who have similar conditions like insulin diabetes and are at a school going age. The tags can be etched with the information and attached to the bag or hung around the neck so that such information is easily accessible. The Dog tags either come individually or in pairs or in large quantities. Usually the tags are very reasonably priced even if they have been custom made and ordered. The chain also comes in various lengths. Depending on what one wishes to use it for – be it for fashion sense, or military practice, or emergency situations, or for one’s children; the tags are for everyone suited for all types of usage.
