Coimbatore is the second largest city of Tami Nadu, a combined place of ethnicity and modernism. Coimbatore is also known as Kovai. This place is located on the banks of Noyyal River and encompassed by the western Ghats. According to history this place was ruled by many dynasties like Cheras, Cholas, Pandyas, the Vijaynagar empire and Madurai Nayaks. Once the place was a part of Mysore Kingdom. It is believed that the city was named after a chieftain called Koyan. It leads as a important commercial center and often referred as 'Manchester of south India'. The place contains some important industries like Automobile spare parts manufacturing, software services, education and health care along with its famous textile industry. After Chennai, Coimbatore is the second city which carries the cosmopolitan culture along with its traditions. This place is regarded as a educational hub of this southern region with 7 universities and many engineering colleges and medical colleges. The city is also known as Koneyammanputhhur, which means 'birth place of the Goddess. The city is landscaped with many religious temples like Perur Patteeswarar Temple, Konniamman temple, Thandu Mariamman temple, Vazhai Thottathu Ayyan temple, Echanaari Ganesh temple, Karamadai temple, Marudamalai Murugan temple, Panchamuga Anjaneya Temple(Hanuman with 5 Faces) and the Dhyanalinga Yogic Temple. Apart from the Hindu temples the mosques, the christian missions, SikhGurudwaras and Jain temples are also present with their individual rituals. The city celebrates a Music festival along with the art, dance and music concert during thetime of September to December. The Mariamman festivals is celebrated at the city’s numerous Amman temples in summer. Coimbatore has traditional south Indian cuisine with the base of rice. Local eateries serve food on banana leaf with its authentic taste. Besides idly, Dosas, Halwa, Vada-sambar the north Indian food, Chinese and continental cuisine are also available in Coimbatore. Peelamedu Airport, the Coimbatore airport connects to south India specially Chennai. Chennai International Airport are the nearest international Airport which connects with major cities in abroad. Coimbatore has a major rail way station which is connected to almost all cities in India. Bus services are also available and this place is well connected with the other cities of this reign. Coimbatore belongs to a pleasant and salubrious climate. The local inhabitants are friendly. The Best time to visit this place is from September to March. This is a good tourist destination with good accommodation for relaxation, religious temple visits, good textile products along with spicy, authentic south Indian food. The place carries the ancient heritage of Tamil people since 500 BCE. Tamil is the main language and it has been used since 2000 years. The Dravidian culture of this place is prominently exhibited in its heritage culture and society which is soaked with tradition. The state contains Hindu temples of Dravidian architecture, hill stations, beach resorts, multi religious pilgrimage sites. Besides, this place boasts eight UNESCO world heritage sites. The central reign consists of many picturesque hill stations like Ooty, Kotagiri and Coonoor. This central part allures many tourists for its serene beauty and lush greenery.
