Men at Fault for Infertility Issues

Health

Fertility is not something men will consider until they are ready to start a family. Human sperm is extremely sensitive and vulnerable to changes in heat, antioxidant status, nutritional status, stress, exercise and metabolism. The male organ and testes require a regular health regime and a sensible intake of vitamins and minerals for help in both performance and function. Additionally, regular exposure to certain chemicals and pollutants has been proven to cause male infertility. Whilst improving fertility will take a concerted effort, it is definitely achievable and will have lasting benefits for a man’s general health throughout his life.

Causes

Male infertility can be caused by so many possible problems and it is important to try and narrow down which might be the most important factor. Whilst it can be said that fertility can reduce naturally with age, lifestyle factors often exacerbate this decrease. Alcohol, smoking, long-term prescribed medications and exposure to environmental toxins (e.g. pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, etc.) all increase toxicity and free radical damage to the testes and sperm. Wearing tight underwear, sitting in the bath too long, gaining weight or having mutual pleasure too often can also cause problems with healthy sperm production. Sometimes infertility may be a symptom of something else going on health-wise, including diseases of the male organ, prostate and testes. These may include varicoles, infection, inflammation, male dysfunction, or structural abnormalities of the male organ.

Lifestyle Advice

Lifestyle changes don't have to be severe but if infertility is a problem, a man does have to do something. Wearing boxer shorts, having showers instead of using the hot tub, increasing exercise (with the exception of cycling, which can have a damaging effect on fertility), reducing alcohol intake and eating more vegetables can also have a hugely positive impact. Lifestyle changes should all point towards reducing free radical damage and toxicity, by promoting a clean and healthy lifestyle.

Other tips include avoiding chemical lubricants, reduce alcohol ( beer especially contains high levels of natural estrogens), have mutual pleasure less often in order to allow sperm cells to rest and to mature and avoid all use of recreational drugs.

If a man has been exposed to industrial chemicals in the past, those toxins often stay in the body for long periods of time by hiding inside fat cells. Detoxification regimes may help to cleanse the body of heavy metals, xenoestrogens and chemicals that have an anti-fertility effect on the body.

Nutritional Medicine

Vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are not just important for general health. The male reproductive system requires nutrients in high doses to perform optimally and recent studies show that many supplemental vitamins support male organ function, prostate health, and production of healthy sperm. Of particular important to male fertility are vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium and zinc.

According to research funded by the Department of Physiology at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, fertile men have significantly higher zinc levels than infertile men. When these sperm were compared in laboratory tests, sperm with higher zinc levels were stronger and healthier. Antioxidants from herbs, berries, fruit and vegetables may also exert a beneficial effect on male fertility. Polyphenols from green tea and ginkgo, as well as anthocyanins from blueberries, bilberries and elderberries, have been shown to protect the human body against a range of chemicals and free radicals.

Supplements

In addition to nutritional support, some supplement products have demonstrated effectiveness in improving the sperm count and health in infertile men. In a study published in the journal Andrologia scientists from the University of Genova, Italy have extensively studied the effects of an amino acid known as L-carnitine on infertile men. After receiving 3g of L-carnitine daily for four months, the men in the study had significantly increased both their sperm counts and the motility of their sperm.

Other research studies have found various botanical extracts have a direct effect on sperm health, including Korean ginseng, saffron, withania, pygeum and andrographis. If you are on prescription medication, particularly heart medication, check with yoru healthcare practitioner before using any of these botanical extracts.

Manhood Health Crèmes

Male organ health crèmes are specialist health products that are designed to deliver nutrients and active ingredients directly to the tissues of the reproductive system. By applying the crème to the male organ, nutrients which may or may not be absorbed from foods and supplements, are taken directly into the local tissues and blood supply. Specialist formulas (most professionals recommend Man1Man Oil) contain L-carnitine, vitamins C, E, A, alpha lipoic acid and botanical oils for optimal fertility and arousal. By boosting antioxidants, improving circulation, and supporting connective tissue integrity, male organ health crèmes naturally aid male health in a way that is both effective and safe.
