Koloriang is a tourist destination of Kurung Kumey district in the north east state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is a picturesque hill station and mostly inhabited by the Nyishi community. Located with an altitude of 1040m above sea level, the place offers a tranquil ambiance and colorful vistas of mother nature. The beautiful valley of Koloriang is a prime nature destination of Arunachal Pradesh. Based on the etymology, Koloriang is originated from two different words 'kolo' and 'riang'. Here 'Kolo' is referred to a man named Kolo Dani who was the owner of this entire area and 'riang' stands for land. The place is ideally located on the bank of Kurung river enticingly surrounded by the lofty mountains. Hamching lies to its north and Gilo Domcho & Tagi Raktak montains are located to to it south. Beautiful Papi river flows through its west where the Payu river passing through its east side. Other than tourism the place is also known for horticulture development. This hilly town offers the breathtaking vistas of green valleys and forests. Several rivers and streams passing through this town add a fresh, lively look to this scenic place. The town enjoys the snowcapped outlook during the winter season. Nestled in an unexplored nature, Koloriang is a great place for nature lovers. The town allures a good number of tourists who feel exhausted due to fast urban lifestyle. The place holds many picnic spots which are quite famous among neighboring places. By road Ziro to Koloriang route is quite exciting and it is resembled that nature has open fully open its arm here. Small hamlets and their unique culture are the other attractions of this place. The experience of this tribal lifestyle and their hospitable nature overwhelm the tourists. Sangra, Palin, Talo and Deed are some small hamlets located around this hilly place. The isolated hilly environs add a mystic charm to this place. It offers a smooth holidaying and adventurous activities as well. Nature walks in this serene ambiance is quite refreshing and rejuvenating for the tourist. Trekking, hiking are some adventurous activities which are the additional charm to this place. Assamese, Bengali, Hindi are the major dialects of this place. This well destined place is connected by air, trains and buses. Tezpur Airport is the nearest airport of this place. Lilabari Airport in Assam is also accessible from Koloriang. Tinsukia Railway Station is the nearest one which is well connected with Guwahati station. Bus connectivity is also available here. Located in a mountainous region, the place offers temperate climate. Summer is the best time to visit this place. It is a New Year celebration followed by mainly Monpas. It is well accompanied with prayers, hoisting of religious flags, reading holy scriptures, lighting butter lamps and others. Reh and Khan are other religious festivals.
