Kitchen sink plumbing usually last for many years; however, if you fit a new sink, it's a good idea to replace the old faucets, plumbing pipes and fittings while everything is accessible. Assemble all the tools and supplies needed before tackling the job, and if you've mislaid your garbage disposal owner's manual, log on to the manufacturer's website and download another copy before your start. Instructions as follows: Firstly, switch off the circuit breaker on your main electrical panel supplying power to your garbage disposal. Turn off the main household water supply shut-off valve; this valve is usually located between the outdoor water meter and the house. Secondly, open the hot and cold sink faucets to relieve water pressure. Turn off the faucet shut-off valves situated on the back wall under the kitchen sink; place a bucket under the valves. Undo both faucet supply pipe fittings connected to the shut-off valves with two opposing adjustable wrenches. Thirdly, undo the female threaded locking ring holding the P-trap to the T-shaped pipe connecting the two sink bowl drains together if applicable, or directly on to the bottom of the disposer if you are removing a single bowl sink. Disconnect the other end from the sewer outlet; if the locking ring threads are too tight, use a pair of channel pliers to break the seal and undo the rings by hand. Fourthly, undo the hose clamp holding the flexible dishwasher drain line to the side of the garbage disposer with a flat screwdriver and pull the pipe off. Undo the two screws holding the vent pipe flange to the side of the disposer with the flat screwdriver. Disconnect the female threaded locking ring holding the disposer to the sink as directed in the installation manual. Lower the unit without disconnecting the electrical wires, and place it on the floor. Fifthly, lift up the disposal unit and attach it to the sink mounting bracket with its clamp ring, as directed in the disposer manual; ensure that the dishwasher vent flange points in the right direction. Reconnect the dishwasher inlet hose to the disposer and tighten the hose clamp with the straight screwdriver. Secure the vent pipe flange to the side of the disposer with the two screws removed earlier. Sixthly, open the household water supply shut-off valve followed by the two faucet water supply shut-off valves. Open the sink drain in the second bowl and turn the cold sink faucet on. Inspect all female threaded locking rings for leaks. If you detect a drip, tighten the locking ring another quarter turn with a pair of channel pliers. Seventhly, turn the faucet off and restore power to the garbage disposer to complete the installation.
