The best ways to clean a floor include sweeping, vacuuming, using a steam mop, scrub brush and rag, or the old mop and bucket method. Traffic across floors track dust, dirt and grime, not to mention the occasional spills and scuffs. When the floors are dirty, the room feels and looks dirty. Using one of the best ways to clean a floor will refresh the floor and the entire room. Sweeping and Vacuuming Sweep or vacuum the floor prior to washing it. It is important to clean up as much of the loose dirt as possible as it will only dirty the water and be pushed into crevices and corners when the floor is mopped. A broom and dust pan works well, especially if pressure is applied to the broom while sweeping. Go over areas more than once to loosen any dirt stuck to the marble floor. Sweep the corners free of collected dirt and particles, and sweep the edges of the room well. Floor sweepers provide a little bit more cleaning power than the typical broom and dustpan. The powered brushes spin very fast, sweeping up the dust and dirt. Floor sweepers are a combination of a vacuum and a broom, and are very convenient to use. Many vacuums have a hard floor setting that allows for use on non-carpeted floors. Use a vacuum to clean the floors of dirt and dust. You may have to use a hose attachment to reach into corners or difficult areas that are too small for the vacuum to reach. Steam Mopping Steam mopping is a popular method of cleaning floors. Once the floors are swept or vacuumed clean, a steam mop will work to loosen the dirt and the old cleaning solution residues that are stuck to the floor. Another nice feature of steam mopping is that the cleaning pads are usually washable. The hot steam dictates that real cloth pads be used, as it would break down any paper pads during the first use. So, this is a plus for household cleaning. Simply toss the cleaning pads in the wash after each use, and reuse over and over. Scrub Brush and Rag Cleaning the floor with a scrub brush, bucket and rag is a very effective way to clean a shower room. It is not the most efficient method, as it does require a lot of elbow grease while cleaning on your hands and knees. However, this method results in clean floors because sections of the floor are scrubbed and cleaned, by hand and up close, before moving to another section. Mop and Bucket Floors can be effectively cleaned with tools like a mop and bucket. It is key to use a good quality mop, very hot water and a good floor cleaning solution. Sponge mops are often preferred because of their cleaning ability. Where the sponge mop goes, it will clean. Rag mops spread across an area and are swept back and forth to clean the floor. Using hot water is very important, as its temperature helps to sanitize the floor and loosen any grease, dirt or residue from the floor. Floor cleaning solutions are widely available. Try to pick solutions that are non-toxic and safe for your family and the environment. It is also easy to make your own floor cleaning solution with common household items. You can pre-mix ingredients to add to your hot water, or just add them to the bucket.
