Dear friends, do you know what steps to make soapstone in the daily life? As we know, soapstone is a quarried stone of metamorphic rock. It can be found in India, Canada, Chile, Brazil, Zimbawbwe and the United States. It is a natural rock containing talc. Once it is quarried, it can be cut into slabs of varying thicknesses, usually from 3/4-inch to 1-1/2 inches. Thesoapstone slabs are sold per square foot. Because it is a soft material, it is relatively easy to cut and shape, making a soapstone countertop a good project for the home handyman. Instructions as follows: Firstly, measure the dimensions of the countertop. Create a template showing placement of the stove top, sink, faucet holes, electrical outlets and the refrigerator. Secondly, clean the edges of the slab by cutting them with a diamond blade and sanding them down. Start with a rough grit and work your way up to a fine grit. Thirdly, transfer the template design to the soapstone by either taping the template on top of the slab, or use a marker to draw the dimensions and necessary holes. Fourthly, place masking tape on the face of the stone where the saw will come into contact, to prevent scratches. Fifthly, create a simple beveled edge on the stone by using a belt sander or an orbital sander. For a more complicated bullnose or ogee edge, use a router. Sixthly, cut holes for the sink, faucet holes and electrical outlets with the jigsaw.. Seventhly, place the soapstone in place over the cabinet. There is no need for a plywood base on top of the cabinets. Use an angle grinder on the seams to scar the edges about 1/8-inch deep. Butter each side of the slab with epoxy and fill the seams. Press together tightly. Remove any excess epoxy and let it dry for ten to fifteen minutes. Sand around the seam with a 120, then a 220 grit sandpaper. Eighthly, run a bead of silicone on the underside of the stone where it comes into contact with the cabinets, as well as inside the cabinets, to form a watertight seal. Apply mineral oil to the finished counter. Finally, let me have a conclusion.
