Elitegroup Computer System (ECS), a Taiwan based pioneer in manufacturing and designing PC motherboards, has recently teamed up with G.skill, Thermaltake, and other media partners to introduce its first worldwide Modmen PC modding competition 11, October 2012. G.skill, another Taiwanese company, which is a leading manufacturer of SATA SSD storage solution and high performance DDR3 used by gaming and overlocking enthusiasts. However, Thermaltake is a manufacturer of server and desktop power supply units, fans, cases and cooling devices. Backed with such big names, the competition will surely provide a great opportunity and exposure to the participants. The ECS MODMEN modding competition 2012 is segregated into two levels. The first stage will take place online where top 10 case modders will be identified through a combination of online votes and ECS' own modding judges. From the ten modders, the top five (in terms of votes) will win US dollar 1,000 each. These top five modders, who have qualified for the second stage of the contest will be flown to Taiwan, where they will be provided, with an accommodation, to compete at Computex for winning the Grand Prize of NT$1,000,000 (approximately US$33.333). During the second stage, the top five contestants will have to showcase their mods at ECS' booth, which will be carefully judged by a panel of accredited judges and the audience to figure out the grand prize winner. The mods will be judged on the different aspects like creativity, mod on motherboard, technique, overall design, and peer evaluation. Beside winning US$1,000, the top five modders will also get a Thermaltake Armor Revo Gene case, Frio Advanced cooler, SMART 750W PSU, SHOCK White or Black headset and G.skill Phoenix III SSD and a set of TridentX(4x4GB)RAM. The participants from sixth to tenth place will also receive a host of prizes consisting a Thermaltake New Soprano Snow Edition case, Frio Advanced cooler, SMART 750W PSU, G.skill Set of RipjawsX (4x4GB)RAM with a Phoenix III SSD. The modder with the highest number of votes in the online voting stage will also receive an additional US$1,000. ECS feels proud to host the competition and hopes to inflame the creativity and skills of the world's best modders while searching for ECS' Modmen of the year. The interested modders can head to ECS' official website to register for 'The ECS MODMEN modding competition 2012.' All submissions are required to be sent before 28, February 2013 for the first stage. The eligible contestants should have an ECS motherboard purchased after 20, September 2012 or an ECS golden Board. The author has registered for The ECS MODMEN modding competition 2012.
