Need to add some flower power to your garden this year? Annual blooms are quick, easy and cost-effective fillers. Some gardeners may stick their noses up at annuals, seeing them as commonplace flowers that don’t require the care and skill of some of the more challenging perennial blooms. Also, since annuals like petunias and geraniums only last a single season, some may wonder if they’re even worth the effort to plant. After all, next year you’ll have to replant them again! Despite these criticisms, annual flowers like impatiens, wax begonias, snapdragons and petunias do have their place in the garden. They are easy to plant and grow and can add lots of color and beauty to any flower compilation. Annuals are useful if you want a lusher and more colorful garden. They can fill in empty spaces or help brighten a garden if the other flowers and plants aren’t yielding as well. Annuals are also a great choice for new gardeners who may not yet be ready to work with bulbs. If you have just planted your first bulb garden you may be disappointed in your yield. Some plants do not flower well or at all their first year. If this is the case, you can quickly and easily spruce up your garden with some colorful annuals. They’ll be gone by the end of the season, but hopefully next year your bulbs will be stronger and will yield big and bright blossoms of their own. One of the other great attributes of annuals is that they tend to be relatively inexpensive. Remember, however, that annual flowers need care too. When you plant them, make sure to read and follow the instructions on how much sun, shade and water they prefer. So, if you’re looking for an efficient way to give your garden a little life, don’t overlook annuals. We sell several different kinds of annual seeds at Learn more about Planting Flowers
