The importance of airline safety is not only a concern for the passenger on board but also a big problem for pilots and the airline travel agency and most importantly the airline company. Ever so often airlines need to re-evaluate their regulations in order to provide the best service and traveller experience. This might call for strict regulatory and guid rules for all to abide and in particular the travellers. The LAG rule which is apparent in airlines today is one such. LAG means liquid, aerosol and gel. The rule here is that if it can be squeezed, poured, smeared and spread and sprayed then is considered to be LAG. There are restrictions on the amount of LAG that can be taken on board and this is to protect to protect against the threat of liquid explosives. Such rules took effect in the European Union and the United States of America, and South Africa which started enforcing these international aviation safety regulations on 01 June 2007. These new rules are a global safety precaution campaign initiated and driven by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Like all other airport management companies in the world, ACSA is an implementing agency of the ICAO which has stipulated a universal and uniform application of these rules. Bags will be available at key points in the airport precinct and will also be issued to airlines for distribution to their passengers at check-in as a last resort. Longer term initiatives will see ACSA providing these bags to the travel industry to allow for distribution at the point of ticket purchase. Safety is important to the airline industry and it probably eats up most of the company budget than any other aspect in flight. What this means is that safety is never compromised. LAG applies only to hand luggage on international flights and has been in implementation for several years in most international flight destinations and longer for other places including most first world countries. There are however exceptions to this and it is understandably so; medication and also items which are strictly for dietary purposes and that includes baby foods. To determine the truthfulness of such products, they are inspected by officers and security and they will have the final say on any product. Items are not to be concealed and individual may be asked for a prescription, making it worthwhile to have it with you during this time. At length some have even been asked to taste their product in the presence on security.
