Some people getting involved in network marketing for the first time may be trying to use it as a supplementary income. Indeed, many people involved in network marketing start their businesses while they are involved with other projects, and supporting themselves with other jobs. Having a day job while trying to begin a business is important, because doing absolutely anything entrepreneurial is defined as ‘high risk and high reward.’ The risks associated with any business opportunity mainly involve the opportunity costs. Investing this amount of time on this project may yield this amount of money. People always have limited time; no matter how many other resources they have at their disposal. Investing a certain amount of time working towards networking marketing success means sacrificing time that could have been spent working towards another goal. If the network marketing pays off well, then it was time well spent. Otherwise, businesspeople potentially sacrificed money that they would have earned elsewhere, perhaps through another part time job. Working under an employer is generally regarded as ‘low risk and low reward.’ Honest employers may pay workers on time, but it is difficult to get much return on your time investment, other than the immediate financial rewards. In some ways, it all depends upon how you frame the issue. It is possible to build businesses part time, but building a business absolutely cannot be a hobby. Network marketing success is something you build up to; you cannot dabble in network marketing and hope to achieve any sort of real, lasting success. Spare time is unpredictable; you may have some today but not enough next week, and that may be the time to strike when the iron is hot, as the saying goes. Part time work is much more easily scheduled: part time workers commit to a certain number of hours per week, and force themselves to make time for those hours come rain or shine. Network marketing cannot be something done on vacation from a standard job. It is a mistake that many beginners make in all sorts of businesses, and then they may spend years wondering why they have still failed to get ahead despite devoting all of their spare time to their projects. Indeed, they may find that spare time evaporates when working on network marketing, but that is better than the alternative of never achieving your goals.
