During any tiling job, there will come a time when you need to cut the tile to fit on the edge of your installation area, or around an obstacle in the middle of your installation area. For tile substances such as granite and marble, a normal ceramic tile cutter won't do the trick, as these rocks don't crack the way ceramic tile does. To cut these rock tiles, you will need a special saw that is designed with a hardened blade and cooling system. Instructions as follows: Firstly, measure and mark your cut on the face of the tile, using a pencil. Only make lines where you can make your cut. Secondly, place your granite tile in front of the diamond wet saw, with the line on the tile positioned directly in front of the blade. Thirdly, put on safety goggles and turn on the wet saw. Fourthly, slide the marble or granite tile into the wet saw blade. Don't force the tile --- just keep moving it forward, and let the saw do the work. Fifthly, push the tile all the way through the saw if you are cutting all the way through; otherwise, stop the saw once you have cut all the way down your pencil line, and then pull the tile out. Repeat this process for every cut on the tile that you need to make. Sixthly, rub a honing cobblestone along the cut edges of the tile. This will dull them slightly, since the cut edges are very sharp. Seventhly, mark the rounded cut that you want to make onto the marble or granite tile, using a pencil. Eighthly, place the tile on the table of your wet saw. Position the tile so the crest of the pencil arc on the tile is aligned with the saw. Ninthly, turn on the saw, put on your goggles and push the tile into the blade. Once you have cut all the way through the soapstone tile, the pencil arc will now crest at the end of the tile, leaving two large sections --- each with half of the arc --- that still need to be cut away. Reposition the tile so the blade is aligned with the crest of one of the half-arcs. Cut the tile along this line, and then do the same for the other half-arc. Continue to cut away pieces of the tile until only 1/2-inch pieces of tile remain on the cut side of the arc. Tenth, place the mouth of your tile nippers against the pieces you still need to cut away from the tile. Pull the handles of the nippers together to snap off the tile. Using nippers on granite or marble will be difficult, but you can do it. These cuts will be rough, but this is all right if the edge of the tile will be hidden, such as underneath a toilet or other fixture. Eleventh, rub the cut end of the tile with a honing stone to dull any sharp edges.
