This has been shown good results as it saw an 18% fall in the knife crime offences. In 2010, 257 cases came in light of knife crimes which have come down to 212 with a fall of 18%. According to the latest initiative if anyone caught with the knife anywhere in the country then one will have to go before sheriff or jury. If anyone caught with knife in Scotland then this means he/she may be sent for imprisonment of upto four years. This seasonal campaign will be run by tribunal services from 1st December to 4th January. Following the seasonal pilot last year the new guidelines came in force in April covering the knife carrying in towns and city centers.
At the time of this festive season if anyone will be caught with knife anywhere in Scotland then the tougher action would be taken. This crackdown has been launched by top law officer of Scotland, Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland QC. He said, "The law implementation has repeatedly advised about the harms of carrying a knife. Hopefully this message will provide some good result and people will be able to celebrate festival time safely."
This campaign got the support of the Association of Chief Police Officer Scotland (Acpos) and the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit (VRU). "This is big priority for the Scottish Police service to focus on the people who carry and use weapons and this operation is just not for the festive time only of the year," Russell Dunn the Assistant Chief Constable of Acpos said.
