DANA Vollmer won the 100 freestyleand 100 butterfly, the latter in a new meet record, and Tae HwanPark picked up his second and third wins of the meet in the secondday of action at the Santa Clara International Grand Prix. Vollmer matched her preliminary time in the women's 100 free to winthe championship final tonight in 54.38. Teammate Natalie Coughlintouched right behind in 54.77, while Australia's Brittany Elmsliewas third in 54.89. Korea's Tae Hwan Park picked up his second winof the meet with a 48.85 in the men's 100 free. California'sAnthony Ervin dipped under 50 with a 49.95 for second, in front ofTerrapin's Aaron Wayne at 50.04. In the women's 200 breast, California's Caitlin Leverenz tookcontrol from the start and held off Santa Barbara's Katlin Freemanto win in 2:26.46. Freeman touched second in 2:27.83, while GatorSwim Club's Sarra Lajnef recorded a 2:30.09 for third. Leverenz wasjust off her fastest time this year of 2:25.63 from theIndianapolis Grand Prix in March. Japan's Kosuke Kitajima, thetwo-time defending Olympic champion who will be going for athree-peat in London, won the men's 200 breast in 2:13.24. Healready owns the top time of 2012 at 2:08.00 from Japan's OlympicTrials in April. Marin Pirates' Scott Weltz took second in 2:14.27,while Mexico's Christian Schurr was third (2:14.35). Bronte Barratt of Australia dominated the women's 400 free with asolid effort of 4:06.13, just off her fastest time this year of4:05.74. Chelsea Chenault of Terrapins finished second in 4:08.95,while Australia's Kylie Palmer touched third in 4:09.79. Tae HwanPark picked up his third win of the meet with a dazzling 3:44.96 inthe men's 400 free, just off his second-ranked time of 3:44.22,which he swam last weekend at the Mel Zajac Jr. International.Australia's Ryan Napoleon grabbed second in 3:49.79, in front ofCanada's Ryan Cochrane (3:50.56). After setting a new meet record of 57.07 in the women's 100 flypreliminaries, Vollmer lowered it even further tonight to 57.03 toimprove upon her top time of 57.21 from last month. Sweden's SarahSjostrom holds the top time of 2012 at 56.79. California's NatalieCoughlin finished second in 58.44, while Palo Alto's Jasmine Toskywas third in 59.63. In the men's 100 fly, Japan's Takuro Fujii(52.79) and Takeshi Matsuda (52.84) finished first and second, justahead of California's Tom Shields, who touched in 53.02.
