The Spain side which jets off to Polandon Tuesday to defend its European crown can do so with certainconfidence after winning its three warm up games before thetournament, but with a few questions still to be answered. Spain's 1-0 win at home to China on Sunday night means that Spainhave defeated China, Croatia (2-0) and South Korea (4-1) to preparefor the defense of the European title they won in 2008. China coach Jose Antonio Camacho said after Sunday's game thatSpain were the side to beat and, despite his obvious nationalloyalty, Camacho has reasons for thinking that way. Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has a side with a well-defined styleof play, which has not undergone drastic alterations since winningthe 2010 World Cup. The good news for Spain is that Del Bosque appears to have a clearview of who will play in defense taking into account the injury toCarles Puyol. With Iker Casillas a fixture in goal, Sergio Ramoswill move across from right back to partner Gerard Pique, whileAlvaro Arbeloa looks set to start at right back and Jordi Alba onthe left. Ramos has spent most of the season playing in a central role forReal Madrid with Arbeloa outside him and has enjoyed a finecampaign. Arbeloa may be more limited, but he should get the nod ahead ofJuanfran Torres, with his experience giving him the edge overJuanfran's superior attacking ability. Del Bosque probably feelsthat Alba on the left will provide an offensive threat whichArbeloa's defensive instincts will balance out. The midfield also looks to just about pick itself with SergioBusquets, Xabi Alonso and Xavi Hernandez providing a fearsome andbalanced group in the middle of the park. Andres Iniesta, meanwhilecan expect to push forward into a more attacking role. There is a question over Xavi Hernandez, who only lasted 45 minutesagainst China as Del Bosque looked to rest the veteran playmaker.Xavi has struggled of late with a calf problem and should he missout that would be a problem. Iniesta meanwhile is vital to Spain, as he showed on Sunday, buthas also suffered a lot of muscle injuries over recent months andthere is a question over whether or not he can last the exertingschedule of a major competition after another demanding season withBarcelona. The main question mark over Spain's bid to defend their title comesin attack. Fernando Torres scored the opening goal against SouthKorea, but has had a poor season and also missed chances againstChina, while Alvaro Negredo, who started at the weekend, failed totake his chance to stake a claim to start. With David Villa out injured, that leaves Fernando Llorente: theAthletic Club Bilbao striker has had a fine season, but is carryinga knee problem after the long campaign and there are doubts whetheror not the big striker, who has excellent close control skills,fits in with Spain' s fast passing game. Del Bosque left him on the bench against China, which means he hasnot participated in any of Spain's warm-up matches and is thusunlikely to start against Italy in Spain's Euro 2012 opener. With David Silva a certainty to start there is one place up forgrabs with Torres perhaps favorite to get the nod, although DelBosque does have other options. Pedro Rodriguez, who had a belowpar campaign and Cesc Fabrigas, who has travelled despite sufferinga muscle problem, could also play, meaning Spain would be without arecognized center-forward, but with the option of pace and movementup front. Against China it did look as if lack of goals could be a handicapfor Spain and Del Bosque will want his strikers to hit form if hisis to lead his country to a European first of defending theEuropean Championship title while also winning the World Cup.
