The Holidays When a believer was a sinner the tokens of this world and its powers became a philosophy for life. The influence of these powers whether passions for music or intellectual pursuits directed our thoughts and became those subconscious scales of good or bad and right and wrong. Culture, race, and associations also influenced the philosophy of our behaviour. 1 Corinthians 13:11 “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” The liberation of faith removes the guilt of the philosophy so the soul can enjoy the pleasure of the token. Even the law gave exceptions to the rule. The priests could even work on the Sabbath day. Deuteronomy 12:20 “When the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy border, as he hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy soul longeth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh, whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.” Blessed is the man that condemns not himself in that thing which he allows. Not for the philosophy of it but for the pleasure of it. Observing the holiday whether Christmas or Easter, cultural or not is not sin if the mind is not using the philosophy of it to justify or condemn. Today is more the music or movies which is the should I or not conflict. Romans 14:22 “Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.” Romans 14:5 “One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.” The Gentiles were without godly counsel when the gospel was first preached in those regions and so Paul had to free the soul with this knowledge. Today it is no different. Just as the ancient Ninevites were lost to virtue of the faith given to Moses, they followed the fad-kings which introduced their own brand of right and wrong. Jonah 4:11 “And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?” Where did all this Error come from? It started in the Garden of Eden when pleasure turned into a philosophy by Satan’s counsel to Adam. God gave the law for faith to Adam restricting him from the one tree in the garden which Satan planted (the Vine of false knowledge). Romans 14:21 “It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.” Satan rules the perspectives of the sinner by that same knowledge. You may eat of every tree for your pleasure but not that one! If you love Me you will observe this commandment. The philosophy of it was packaged in its beauty and the desire for power to control the events of life as a god. Satan was promising more for them than a treat but self-empowerment. This fear still rules today in all sinners (grace-resisters) Romans 4:8 “Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.” David realized this revelation when the Lord did not strike him dead after he ate of the showbread. Not only that, but God increase His revelations towards him and David’s faith was the mark of God on his steward. And then shall they Fast in those Days: Love Stricken As we await the coming of the Lord and the receiving of our inheritance to fulfil His joy we abstain from the sins of this world which is the perpetual building of our personal house of philosophy which gives definition to one’s personal values called the principle. The honour of the world and the praise of man follows this pattern. We fast this loss, called being crucified with Christ. It is this poverty He endured which was contrary to the boast of man. Not acting like the King of Glory, but the pattern for our faith and Record of our soul. 2 Corinthians 8:9 “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.” As we endure and overcome by fasting of the philosophy of this age we gain more insight of the One who called us to His righteousness. The Gentiles pursued idols. 1Thessalonians 4:5 “Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:” It is this spirit of the prince of the powers of the air that directs the signature of man into the dream world of self. The right stuff for the environment of the hypocrite being Satan’s kingdom. Ephesians 4:19-20 “Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.20 But ye have not so learned Christ;21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 1Corinthians 3:21 “Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are your's;” Abstain from those things that will drown the soul in perdition which becomes a philosophy of right and wrong. Those of faith free the soul from the powers that would otherwise take you captive. Pursue that which is good for the use of edifying your brother and abstain from the filthy conservation of the world. The conduct of sinners centers upon that personal philosophy for the boast. Ecclesiastes 8:15 “Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.” The temperance of the Spirit sets the boundaries to the appetites as the soul monitors your intake. Romans 5:3-5 “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” The state of the conscience determines your levels of pleasure so as not to offend your brother. God gives to man that which is good in His sight, but sinners make many inventions to mislead the behaviour and conduct into the philosophy of it. In Conclusion As the Lord circumcises the heart by the knife of truth your love for the things of this world lose their grip because the philosophy of them changes with growth just as the interests of the child changes with their growth and environment. We learn through His grace the important things of His interests which is fruit unto life. If you want of live unto life which is Jesus Christ you must undergo the processes of this translation and not seek to justify your choices but walk in Him. 1 Corinthians 11:22 “What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? what shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.” So as Adam enjoy the fruit of the land and the trees but avoid the philosophy of the devil and his wiles which is concealed in the knowledge of this world being the skin of the serpent.
