hanseboot ancora boat show closed on an upbeat note: A recordbreaking 17,000 visitors attended the three day event which tookplace from June 1-3, 2012 in the ancora Marina of the LübeckBay located in Neustadt in Holstein. An excited crowd consisting of water sport experts, beginners andenthusiastic families used the three day event to gather first handexperience on handling sailing yachts and motor boats on the waterand gather information about accessories and maritime equipment andwater sport services on land. A wide range of live programs covering information sessions as wellas hands-on instruction courses and equipment testing provided awelcome value addition to Germany"s largest in-water boatshow. „The hanseboot ancora boat show provides an importantfunction for the whole water sports industry. We look at this eventas "lighthouse", an orientation point for the upcominghanseboot later this fall. The third edition of this event gave theindustry a stage to meet and kick off the boating season at thestart of the summer. The feedback we received is overwhelmingpositive and it confirms that action and fun events which are partof "habs" resonate well with our visitors andexhibitors", explains Heike Schlimbach, Business UnitDirector at Hamburg Messe and Congress GmbH. Two years ago, HamburgMesse successfully merged with the established In-Water boatingevent in Neustadt, as part of a strategic move to increase thefocus of hanseboot on the Baltic Sea and Northern Europeancountries. 143 Boots and Yachts which were docked at the piers of the ancoraMarina were the main attractions of this year"s hansebootancora. Manufacturers and dealers from Northern Germany used theevent to showcase a wide range of sailing and motor yachts whichcame in all sizes and price points. More than 60 Pagoda tentsshowed equipment and accessories of notable manufacturers andbrands. The displays included many useful innovations for watersport users. Exhibitors praised the strong attendee numbers and thehigh level and professional infrastructure offered at the ancoraMarina. „We had three days of ideal weather: too cold forgoing to the beach, too windy for sailing but dry and sunny butjust perfect for exhibitors to talk with prospective clients at thepiers or tents with the wonderful Baltic scenery as backdrop. Weknow of quite a number of exhibitors that were able to take ordersduring our event", added Heike Schlimbach. The interactive program took place on water, land and in the air.Highlights were helicopter flights for everyone and professionaldivers who provided insights into their daily working environmentviewable for the audience from a container. Exhibitors andsponsoring companies conducted sport, fun and safety operations onopen water. Another attraction was a spectacular rescue andrecovery operation jointly organized by the German marine alongwith the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS). Theoperation involved a salvage cruiser supported by a helicopter. Thefire brigade of Neustadt invited volunteers to participate in firedrills, attendees were also invited to practice their skills indocking boats at the piers. Favorite activities among the younger generation were the buildingof wooden boats which were assembled under the guidance ofprofessional boat builders. The sail making company Simoneit Sail& Service offered young children a chance to make bags fromsail cloth. Youngsters were welcome to a free of charge sailing experiencesponsored by the Luebek sailing school in cooperation with theregional Weekly Newspaper „der reporter". A 30-minutemotor boat navigational course was offered to children four yearsand older. The drive through the harbor was provided by the coaches of the Junior Motorboat Team Schleswig Holstein e.V.and team members of the chandlery company A.W. Niemeyer andPantaenius Yacht Insurance. The weekend offered dinghy tournamentswith the chance to obtain a driver"s permit certified by theGerman Motor Yacht Association for dinghies operated by childrenbetween eight and twelve.
