Receiving criticism is a goal of any writer, not matter if they are writing fiction to web content. Getting feedback always helps us improve our craft. For the creative writers out there on the market, getting true creative criticism can be difficult and downright nonexistent. Some reasons for this may include the lack of a platform for readers to leave honest comments and ratings, to spam filters that shift through the endless "buy now products" to irrelevant content. These comments waste time and resources but they do happen. How should creative criticism be handled? Creative criticism in nature should provide commentary regarding the content that has been written by the author. This means that the reader should reflect upon the nature of the story, novel, poem, etc. and comment on the creative elements in play. The comments should inform the author about any grammar, spelling or context issues that the reader found. The reader acts like an independent editor but offers their opinion to help improve their creative craft. Responding to the particular scenes, lines of dialog or plot twists is expected, the author needs to know what is working and what doesn't. There is a difference between bashing and offering opinions, bashing is the lowest form of communication and is harmful to the author's finished product. Bashing an author over a view-point or being too critical destroys the confidence of the writer. Don't hold back necessary tidbits that could improve their craft, such as pointing out rough areas in a poem or manuscript that seems unclear. Pointing out errors to the character may be intentional and not an actual error. Don't bash on the character themselves, plot twists or be a boo hoo bear about the language. Some authors go for a life-like realism that adds to the artistic value of the item. As a writer, relax about the comments and if the comment is harmful. You can freely ignore the review or counter it with questions to the reviewer. Put the reviewer in the spotlight and question their motives and ideas behind their comments. Don't argue but offer your point of view! Some negative comments reflect solely on the author's idea or the content that has no real value. "I find this poem to be full of bananas", does not tell you anything except that they did not read the item. Scan the comments and look for ideas or point of views that has substance, I should not have to tell you what to look for in these comments. Blow off the negativism and get a professional review from a fellow author, if you are really worried about it. You can change the rough areas that you feel need some work case studies essays
