5 Tips For The Care And Disposal Of Your Christmas Trees

Spiritual

There is nothing more fun than getting your Christmas tree and decorating it. It is a time to spend with family doing an activity you can enjoy during the Christmas season. However, a tree is a big responsibility, and if not handled properly, can cause you a lot of problems. You can avoid these problems by following a few simple tips. These tips will help you get the most from your Christmas tree, and you can enjoy it throughout the Christmas season.

1. Make a fresh cut of your tree as soon as you get it home and mount it in the stand.

A fresh cut is where you trim the bottom inch of the trunk of your tree. If you don't, the tree won't be able to absorb any water. Make sure you check for broken branches or loose needles. Clean these off so you don't have to pick them up later, but more importantly, you won't have these elements dry out and cause a fire hazard.

2. Use plenty of water and replenish it regularly.

According to the National Christmas Association, your tree will need about a gallon of water a day, so you want to make sure you check the water often. Keep the stand filled so that your tree always has plenty of water. This is also a good time to check to see if there are any dry needles or other debris from your tree. Clear this away as you go because again, it's a fire hazard.

3. Don't use candles or any other type of decoration that could cause the tree to burn.

Using these types of decorations makes it too easy to start a fire. That's obvious. However, you also want to make sure you check all the lights you use on your tree too. Just one spark of electricity from a broken bulb can be enough to ignite your tree and burn your house down. Don't take this chance so make sure you check your bulbs regularly and replace any that have burned out or have gotten broken.

4. Buy a good stand that is capable of holding your tree.

The bigger the tree, the bigger the stand you will need. This should go without saying. You want a stand that will hold your tree in place and is solid so that your tree stays in the stand. You also want a stand that will hold your tree securely in case someone bumps it or you have small children around. You don't want to make it easy for them to pull the tree over. This could cause bulbs to get broken and ignite a fire, or cause broken glass, especially if you use a lot of glass ornaments. Someone could get injured. If you do have small children, it's probably a good idea to just use plastic or cloth ornaments.

5. After Christmas, remove your tree before it dries out. Properly dispose of it.

Most municipalities offer disposal of your Christmas tree. They will publish the times and dates for pickup. Remove your tree in time to get it picked up as this service is only offered for a certain period of time. Dispose of your tree as soon as possible. Most trees will last for about five to six weeks, but you want to remove your tree before it dries out.

I love decorating my Christmas tree every year. It's a great time for family and spending time together. Reduce the stress and effort involved in taking care of your tree by following these tips. Take the proper measures to take care of your tree and it will stay beautiful throughout the season.
