EMT training is not something that most people just jump into. If you think you would be good at the job, you could simply go through the training. Even if you later decide the career isn't right for you, you will still be left with a set of lifelong skills. Someone trained in this area can always be used, because emergencies happen all of the time when no medical professionals are available. Getting some council from someone who is an emergency medical technician might be wise. He or she would be able to tell you what most days entail. There is no way for them to guarantee that you will never run into anything horrific, but someone who has been there might be able to help you to understand that you might be able to handle it. You are never really going to be on your own when it is your job. There will usually be a back-up person. You should never depend on them to take over, but if you ever needed help, they would probably be there for support. Of course, when you are first starting out there would always be enough help with you. Choosing a lifelong profession is difficult, especially when your choice may be putting the lives of others on the line.
