No matter the topic of your online business, a membership site is an option, and it's a must have option if you want a steady income to your business. You can create a membership site on any topic. It can be as simple as an autoresponder that sends out a message every week, to something that requires you use a membership site script software to build it. I personally offer membership levels so that customers can get the content they want and not waste their time on content they don't want. I also provide content on a regular basis and automate the entire process so that I'm not constantly working on my site. The first reason you want to create membership site is the income issue. Creating a membership site allows you to create a steady income for your business. This can become a passive income because it allows you receive money in your business whether you are working or not. It's a definite advantage. Another advantage is that it's an easy way to distribute your content to your customers. They receive the content when you want them too. Again, automation is an important aspect here, and it's also a definite benefit. Membership sites don't require that you constantly work on them either. You can spend a few hours a month creating and adding content and then you're finished. All you have to do is market. Marketing is easy. You can spend a couple of hours a day marketing your site and then you're finished for the day. You can use free internet marketing techniques too like article writing, joint ventures, affiliate program management, social and video marketing. You can create a community of rabid fans that can create your content for you. Then your site will practically run itself. Just make sure you include some type of premium content to keep members coming back. This content should be exclusive to your community and not easily obtained elsewhere. Now, before you launch into building a membership, you should also know the downsides. You will need content, and you will need a lot of it. You will have to produce content regularly for your readers. Otherwise, they will cancel their memberships. If you're not a writer though, producing content may be tough. You may want to hire a writer to write it for you. This is why it's so important that you choose a membership topic that you know a lot about. Then it's not so difficult to produce content. You write about what you know. You can always find someone to edit for you. Keeping members can be an issue though. That's why it's important to produce good content, leave them hanging until the next month, and then give them another piece of the puzzle. Build a relationship with them. Offer them information that is exclusive to your site and worth reading. Help them solve their problems, and they will become loyal members that will stay with you for the long haul. The advantages of offering a membership site far outweigh the disadvantages. In fact, it's my favorite business model because it's so easy to do, and once you get established, you can build a loyal fan base that will keep coming back for more.
