"> By the time you finish this short report, I guarantee you'll discover some astonishing things about yourself. And maybe a whole new way of seeing the world and the importance of your role in it. The truth is we're all growing and learning. I was right there, ping ponging around, totally reactive and reliant on everyone else to make sure all was well in my world. In fact, I was totally unaware I had any other option. That is until some kind souls took me aside and gave me an education in responsibility, kindness and doing the right thing. Very liberating when you figure out that this simply puts control right into your hands. And helps you help others, ULTRA COOL! You will discover: That your actions, positive or negative, directly impact you and everyone around you. Kids, work-mates, community, everyone... You have a choice on how you interact. Luckily the choice is yours, no-one else is pulling your strings. The life you dream of is absolutely within your reach. Come with me now, I promise you'll enjoy it. Aha #1 - The Place for Change is Within You Wouldn't it be amazing if you could simply relax, confident that things will be OK. But the fact is unless you learn to control your thinking and emotions, you'll always be worrying about 'what if'. You'll always be chasing rabbits down holes looking for the why, what and where and thinking, 'oh my gosh, what if 'X' happens?' Unless you become aware of the power of your own thoughts, and gain control of them, your focus will remain on what bad things can befall you from the outside world. Let's face it, by focusing your energy on the negative 'what if' possibilities, you simply create a whole lot of stress and frustration for yourself. You become a victim. Clearly it's the inner world you need to take control of. This is where your power and influence lies. Aha #2- No criticism, judgement of yourself or others Let's keep this brief and to the point, I'm sure you'll get it!! - You are / I am - such a loser. - You can / I can - never stick to anything. - You / I - have no back-bone. - You will / I will - always be fat. - You are / I am - hopeless at anything new. Awesome!!! I wonder how you feel when you think like this, I know how I feel. Angry, frustrated, resentful, shamed, doubtful, disappointed, humiliated, embarrassed, disrespected inferior, powerless, rejected, defensive... Mm, not really putting a good vibe out there, are we? Aha #3- Be kind to yourself and others This is really an extension of Aha #2. But I believe this needs its own moment as kindness is easily overlooked in the hustle and bustle of daily life. You may be wondering, hold on, I'm always kind to others and especially to myself! Are you really? Well, only you know the answer to that, and I think we've already seen in #2 how easy it is to be unkind. To yourself or others. Let's take a quick look at a few things I've been guilty of (shame), please don't spread this around... - Being intolerant of others views -Talking about other people UNKINDLY - Laughing with my friends at others peoples fashion sense (!) - Groaning and moaning about a decision a boss had made - Condemning someone as lazy who was having overweight Now, have you ever been guilty of anything like this - at all, even remotely. Could any of this be described as kind. And again as in # 2 - I'm not putting a good vibe out there with this kind of thinking, am I? And really, isn't that what we all want. For good vibes to come our way and people to be kind to us, or love us. It works both ways. Someone has to start it, why not let it be you, and me? Aha #4-Do what's right Doing the right thing may be hard, you may not like it and it may be inconvenient. Darn it! But you're intelligent enough to know what the right thing is. And you're smart enough to know this is also about using your integrity muscle and respecting yourself and others. It can be challenging,, you may need to step up and take responsibility. You may even need to get out of your comfort zone. You may need to do something you've never done before You may even need to speak to someone (maybe yourself) in a different way than usual. Maybe assertively or maybe even kindly (!). It may take some time and effort. But you know it's 'the right thing' to do. Doing the right thing' makes knowing what to do when in a stressful or challenging situation simple. I didn't say easy but it can be easy, very easy. Aha #5- We're all doing the best we can This one can be tricky - but open your mind and you'll see and hear something wonderful. No matter what I do, how bad, dull, good or great, it was the best I could do at the time. This applies to you too. This may sound strange, and even wrong, especially when you think of evil or injustice. But whatever it was, it was the best that person could do at the time, no matter what it was. That doesn't make it good, or mean you have to act like it didn't happen if you didn't like it. But by simply accepting that it is what it is and that you can't change it or may never understand it, you gain the power to step back and deal with it, and maybe even let it go. How good is that? This doesn't mean you can fix it, or maybe you can, but maybe the damage is too great. What it does mean is that you decide the best way forward for you taking into account everyone else that's involved. Do the 'best you can do', and at the same time 'do the right thing'. TIME TO GET INTO ACTION!! Step One Read this newsletter again. Step Two Discuss it with a close family member, are you brave enough? Gently does it - remember kindness, non-judgemental and all of that good stuff. Step Three Discuss it with a work colleague or a neighbor. Or at least notice your thoughts and actions when interacting with them. Would you pass a 'Kindness Test'? Hi there, my name is Sue Girdler and it's nice to meet you.
